Question about stuff made in USA

The thread on American made goods got me thinking. I realized that none of my clothes are made in the USA. What stores or clothing shops do you guys go to that sell primarily American made goods and services? I can't seem to find any around here.

Sometimes I just give up but not for lack of trying. A lot of Hanes products are made in the US, also Fruit of the Loom. But, overall, it's really, really hard. I read labels all the time trying to find US-made clothing.

4. I used to do a radio show

called "Made in the USA". That's about the only thing I know of that's still made in the USA :shrug:

5. Where in the USA

Micronesia is a territory of the USA and there has been several sweatshops located over there. They can produce clothing that claims "Made in the USA". I know there is a big lobbying effort to try and denote it's not actually made in the states but there are some powerful lobbyists that have given big bucks to folks like Tom Delay

6. New Balance sneakers (some models)

Alternative Apparel (which was set up as, you guessed it, an alternative to made-in-the-US but scummy American Apparel, I have a lot of their stuff but won't be getting more.)
Lots of WAHM (work at home mother) produced clothing for women and kids
Of course older used and vintage stuff is american-made and often has a ILGWU tag on it someplace


Places that focus on durable work clothes often have a fair quantity of work boots and shoes, pants and other basics for men (not so much for women) made in the US

8. Carhartt

Not all Carhartt stuff is USA made, but their double-knee brown duck pants are USA-made and union-labeled (other colors of double-knee too I think, but brown duck are the toughest). Since discovering that, they are the only jeans I've bought (for like 6 years now). I started an office/field job about that same time, and therefore initiated a 1-man campaign to make Carhartt's acceptable office-attire. We were a casual office before then, but not really THAT casual. I came close to getting fired (for both clothes and other general non-conformity), but eventually things worked-out. Now I use the new Carhartts for office days, and once they get older, they do weekend farm duty for a year or so more... so it's USA-made AND cost-effective.

rather like jeans used to be made back in the old days. I've got some that are a year old that look very nearly new.
