Urban Outfitters catalog. My 13-yr-old son just went through it with me
Edited on Wed Feb-07-07 03:20 PM by crim son
to show me how bad he thinks all the clothing is. "Ew," he says, pointing to a babydoll top with lace trim. "Ew." This is for a pair of jean shorts. "Ew. No, make that a double ew," as he points to a really ugly minidress with a matching patent leather belt. "If I saw a girl wearing this, I'd run to the fire department to grab a hose and put her out!" The dress is bright red with a blazing orange trim. Then come the bathing suits. "Can't say no to these," he says and blushes. I ask him, "Do you like anything in here besides the bathing suits?" His response: Nope.

This is a miniature man and I trust his judgement. Why the hell do we spend our time and money covering our bodies in the latest fashions and hottest styles? The men hate them or are, at best, indifferent. Jeans and a t-shirt, that's all they want to see us wearing. Jeans and a t-shirt or nothing at all. :eyes:

1. My dear crim son!
I think you've done a very good job of raising your son!

The stuff in the catalog is for people who want the "latest" thing...

Who are slaves to that......

Who have no good sense of their own!

Good for you!

:yourock:

4. If you wear a dress in Maine anywhere other than to a Christmas
party or a wedding then you're an oddball. "Formal" here means "not made of denim". At forty-three, I am the best dressed person I know of any age, except possibly my daughter and this is because I have more than two pairs of pants and more than one pair of shoes. Okay, I have at least twenty pairs of shoes (men who'd like to date me, take note: I'm a cheap date but I'm an expensive life-partner).

The only dress I like in the picture is the white one.

22. Is it really just about pleasing men?
Isn't it possible that some clothes give women more confidence, which we all know is an incredibly sexy trait. And even if it doesn't help the woman get laid it might make her happier in general. Of course I've never seen an Urban Outfitters catalogue so I really don't know what I'm talking about.

24. I think you have a very good point and I have never thought
about it that way, though it's so true. I feel confident in certain things and like a troll in others and it really has little to do with the actual reaction of men I meet. It's always been apparent that I'm more likely to be approached if I'm shabbily dressed than when I'm fully decked out, and my thought has been that any man who has the courage to get past the exterior is probably brave enough to handle me. :D

30. Attitude is more important than clothes
However, the clothes can have an influence on your attitude. If Urban Outfitters helps people feel good about themselves then that's fine with me, unless of course UO is guilty of some heinous korporate krime that I don't know about. Sorry for interrupting your thread with something thoughtful. Can we all go back to imagining you in some of the outfits that you've been talking about now?

32. Boy is my mind wandering
I'm listening to the old Replacements song "I Will Dare" and wondering if it's the best song ever. It is at this moment. I know, I've listened to it six times in a row. I'm wishing I could soak in a bathtub but I can't because the city is tearing up the sewer pipes in front of my house.

Instead I'll go spend a Christmas gift certificate at a used record store then try to find a good bar to have a brew or two, which is annoyingly lacking in this town.

How's that for a thread-jack?

42. It was a random purchase
I was hanging out downtown last weekend with my wife and a friend. We went into an old store that sells clothes and we found the hat. We all agreed that it looked good on me so I bought it. It's the first hat I've ever owned that wasn't a baseball cap. It puts a spring in my step when I wear it which the dogs appreciate during our walks

ps: The jacket is new too. I found it on the clearance rack for 25 bucks at the Experience Music Project gift shop
