What's your favorite nature sound?
Ever since XM radio was required to do Emergency Alert System tests on all channels, I go to bed to nature sounds, since I don't want to wake up to any harsh sounds. My favorite is the ocean with seagulls.

1. Lawn mowers.
Takes me back to childhood memories of saturday mornings. The smell of fresh cut grass and lakes is the last thing I want to smell as I go out.

5. rain can lull me to sleep.
while I may not like walking through a driving rain - that same rain can help bring sleep (something about the juxtaposition about feeling safe and warm (per not getting wet from that rain) with the sense of the importance and good that comes from rain - can just lull me into a peaceful sleep.)

10. Rumbly long thunder
My complaint with nature sounds is that they keep throwing the bird in there and any kind of whistling irritates me. Unfortunately, ConnoKid LOVES to whistle. Argh.

A cool website of "one minute vacations" sounds from all over the world recorded and submitted by many people.
http://www.quietamerican.org/vacation_1.html
On the first page of recordings -April 29, 2002- a man recorded the sound of hailstones on the steel roof of a cattle shed at the end of a brief hailstorm, and you can hear peepers from the nearby pond.

39. I'm sorry for you.
I'm very hard of hearing, also, but I still hear them a little, anyway. With the hearing aid I hear them all, but then all the other sounds - cars etc.- are very loud, too, so I never wear it.
When I loose my hearing completely the birdsong will be what I miss most.

41. Owls. Great HOrned Owls, to be precise.
there's a stand of trees in back of my place and I can hear their "hoo-HOO-hoo-hoo" at all hours.
i dont' think they nest there; they come to hunt bunnies and field mice, I think.
sometimes there's a 'call and response' between two of them.
they're either hooting about getting together or one telling the other the hunting grounds are claimed.
