Cowboys hire Wade Phillips as head coach.
Sweet. I think he'll be excellent.

No link yet, just breaking news banners on Yahoo sports and ESPN.

1. WADE PHILLIPS!! are they kidding?? WADE PHILLIPS!!!??!
I was just about to post this
http://www.panews.com/breakingnews/local_story_039094905.html

For crying out loud he was not only a complete JOKE as coach of the Bills but he is also the embodiment of the "good old boys" network of the coaching carousel in the NFL. Without being named specificallly he was one of the main reasons that the NFLPA started pushing for new blood in the league. This manifested itself in many ways and one of them was what we saw on Sunday TWO black head coaches.

WADE PHILLIPS!?!?!?

Good grief

I do hear that Jason Garrett is being "groomed" to take over in a few years...but still WADE PHILLIPS!!!?!?!

9. Boy, I think Norv would be a much better choice
Imagine the extra spice it would bring to the Redskins/Cowboys rivalry.

10. Y'all are welcome to him.
No way do I want him back with the Cowboys, and I was seriously concerned they were going to offer him the job. He's fine as an offensive coordinator, but sucks out loud as a head coach.

14. Sorry. Guess the 49ers will have to find another way to get rid of him.

12. He has a better record than Norv Turner, and Jones learned his lesson
about hiring coordinators without head coaching experience as head coaches. Plus, Turner was demanding Rivera as his DC, which means the Cowboys would have to change to a 4-3 defense.

Still... If they make Garret the OC, they have no offensive play-calling experience on the team. And Philips had a decent record largely because he took better teams than Norv Turner. I mean, the Redskins and the Raiders have to be the worst coaching jobs in the NFL. (Sorry to their fans, but you already know it).

Oh well, now we know.

15. I wouldn't count Norv out, since even Gibbs can't get..
the 'Skins going. There's just something I've never liked about Wade Phillips. But maybe he's more talented than Buddy Ryan, the one he reminds me of.

18. I know, I was pulling for Turner, despite my gesting here.
Hard to hold the Redskins and the Raiders against him.

16. Jones tried a "giant of the game" coach who ran everything
and he ended up only winning two more games than he lost

Now, it seems he is trying more of a caretaker coach with Jones calling more of the shots.
