I didn't get a chance to talk to my son about the difference between "bailing" on him and not enabling him. I hope to do that before I leave.

He says some of the most insane things sometimes, specifically that he knows that I'm right most of the time and that he probably should listen to me more often, but that he just has to do things his own way.



In other words, despite the fact that the mistakes come at such a big cost, it's more important that he do things his own way (even when he knows that way is probably wrong). :wtf:

I'm sorry I missed your thread yesterday.

You are doing the right thing. I know many here
have said that.

It's hard to let go because you're worried about what may
happen to your son.I believe, as do many here, that this
will be the swift kick he needs to get it together.

I know this quirk you speak of. My son, who is 22, is
going through the same thing. The difference is, he
has High Spectrum Autism and needs more directing
and re-directing to keep on task. Even so, he insists
on doing many things " his own way". Many times, if
the results won't kill him or aren't catastrophic, I back off.
He has to deal with the consequences.

It's really hard.
