I don't get it.
Every now and again I do a websearch on my DU name and see what others are saying about me.
It's not much, but there's one dude at the site we cannot mention who made a reference to me writing him nasty emails. I have no idea who it is, but I know he's lying because I've never written emails to anyone that I didn't know while using my Rabrrrrrr name. I have written emails to a couple DUers I know, but they were people I know and certainly weren't hatefilled. I've also never written a nasty PM to anyone on DU, so even if the shit-ass was a mole over here (and that's an entirely different pathology I'll never understand, either) I never wrote him a nasty email. So why lie about it?
Another guy makes mention of meeting me and not being impressed, and this was before I met the big group in St. Paul when, at the time, I had met a total of four - count them, four - DUers, three of whom I've come to know well and one of whom I have stayed in touch with, but who is still here and active and certainly never has given any indication of being a freep. So, clearly, this guy over on the site not to be named never met me. So why lie about it?
Do they get some kind of street cred for it? If they do, that's pretty sad, because I'm clearly nothing to brag about. I could see lying about knowing/meeting/exchanging emails with Skinner or Will Pitt or a few others who have a very public face. But me? Who the fuck cares? What kind of street cred do you get for saying you met me? None, that's what.
Might as well brag that you wiped matcom's ass with Anna Nicole Smith's chenille scarf while giving a high-on-glue Jeff Goldblum a bloody reacharound with a well-oiled-but-broken vanity mirror the night you helped OJ Killed what's her name. I mean, who hasn't? It's not impressive.
I'll admit, because I think it's blatantly obvious, that lots of liberals have mental issues and mental problems - but they are all diagnosed and treatable and recognized by psychiatrists. But their liberalism isn't a mental issue itself. I really and truly think that conservativism, or more precisely the rabid conservatism of freeps, religious fundies, and other freaks -- perhaps we can call that capital-c Conservatism -- IS a mental issue itself. And I read recently a wonderful paper on conservatism as a mental disorder, a paper someone posted the link to here on DU but which link I don't have and which paper is at my office so I can't post the link from it.
Why the lying? What does it gain them?
