Wanna post a song that makes you happy and puts you in a good mood?
Please do so here. Post a video link if you can. I am full up on piss and vinegar for today. Let's get happy. :)

Here is a Christine Kane song called "The Way Clouds Do", it always relaxes me and makes me feel peaceful.

Christine Kane - The Way Clouds Do
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FvdUhvxS_bw

The Way Clouds Do
(Christine Kane)

A woman read a romance
And I could smell her fragrance
All the way to Baltimore
Every guy with a cell phone
Kept on trying to call home
Except nobody's home anymore

In a torn seat with a big stain
Where somebody lost their loose change
And somebody shoved their bubble gum
I stared out the window
Watched the cars watched the world go by
I am everyone

And all around me
The traffic flew
The cars were rushing
The way cars do

Well you know, we got a lot to do before we're done
God bless the world and all the ones for whom the night is long
And all these drivers and their dreams
They look like me

Back in Fairfax, Virginia
Me and the girls we grew up
In homes they built on battlefields
Ponytails and panic
We were bad, bored and bulimic
We longed for something real

And right behind me
An aisle or two
The girls were laughing
The way girls do

Well you know, we got a lot to do before we're done
God bless the world and all the ones for whom the night is long
And all these children and their needs
They look like me

And high above me
The sky is blue
The clouds are changing
The way clouds do

Well you know, we got a lot to do before we're done
God bless the world and all the ones for whom the night is long
And all these drivers and their dreams
And all these children and their needs
And all the earth and all the trees
All in all it looks like me

9. Thanks friend. That puts a smile on my face.
I bought the first nat'l release Devo album the day it was released. Heard it in the store and took it home. Yes I did. Played it--pure and easy--for every man, woman, and mutant I knew.

I am a recent funk convert since a whole bunch of it was posted in my dance thread the other day. There are some real treasures on youtube.

And the lounge damn definitely needs the funk tonight (the good kind, that is).

I think it was Baldy Man that posted this in the dance music thread, this is one of my favorite things I've seen in a long time

"Ain't I'm Clean?"

the people in this audience make it as much as the performers do

you can't not be happy watching these people in the audience let loose

102. Interesting side note about that band.
On most of their songs (including the ones I posted here) they don't have a drummer.

The percussion is performed by a tap dancer.

Kinda cool.

A friend of mine used to be in a band called Cucanandy that had a percussive dancer and it sounded like that to me when I watched the video. Pretty neat. :)

here is a link:
http://www.drumwithyourfeet.com/Cucanandy.htm

My friend is the beautiful brunette in the second pic from the left, she sings lead. I think she has moved on to other projects though, she has sung celtic music in several different bands and also plays rhythm and bass guitar

5. Hot Rod Lincoln
Hot Rod Lincoln

( Commander Cody and the Lost Planet Airmen )

My pappy said, "Son, you're gonna' drive me to drinkin'
If you don't stop drivin' that Hot Rod Lincoln"

Have you heard this story of the Hot Rod Race
When Fords and Lincolns was settin' the pace?
That story is true, I'm here to say
I was drivin' that Model A

It's got a Lincoln motor and it's really souped up
That Model A Vitimix makes it look like a pup
It's got eight cylinders, uses them all
It's got overdrive, just won't stall

With a four-barrel carb and a dual exhaust
And four-eleven gears you can really get lost
It's got safety tubes, but I ain't scared
The brakes are good, tires fair

Pulled out of San Pedro late one night
The moon and the stars was shinin' bright
We was drivin' up Grapevine Hill
Passing cars like they was standing still

All of a sudden in a wink of an eye
A Cadillac sedan passed us by
I said, "Boys, that's a mark for me!"
By then the tail light was all you could see

Now the fellas was ribbin' me for bein' behind
So I thought I'd make the Lincoln unwind
Took my foot off the gas and man alive
I shoved it on down into overdrive

Wound it up to a hundred and ten
My speedometer said that I hit top end
My foot was glued like lead to the floor
That's all there is and there ain't no more

Now, the boys all thought I'd lost my sense
And telephone poles looked like a picket fence
They said, "Slow down! I see spots!"
The lines on the road just look like dots

Took a corner; sideswiped a truck
Crossed my fingers just for luck
My fenders was clickin' the guardrail posts
The guy beside me was white as a ghost

Smoke was comin' from out of the back
When I started to gain on that Cadillac.
Knew I could catch him, I thought I could pass
Don't you know by then we'd be low on gas?

We had flames comin' from out of the side
Feel the tension, Man! What a ride!
I said, "Look out, boys, I've got a license to fly!"
And that Caddy pulled over and let us by

Now all of a sudden she started to knockin'
And down in the dips she started to rockin'
I looked in my mirror; a red light was blinkin'
The cops was after my Hot Rod Lincoln!

They arrested me and they put me in jail
And called my pappy to throw my bail
And he said, "Son, you're gonna' drive me to drinkin'
If you don't stop drivin' that Hot ... Rod ... Lincoln!"

He's got a sort of cult following, but he's not what you could call a big name. (Of course, the fact that he does country/rockabilly probably has something to do with that, too.)

which deals with two men coming out in the deep south, kind of like a precursor to Brokeback Mountain but with no sex, only kissing. It's a pretty good movie, though flawed. She just about nails that accent too, which is hard to do, in the movie she's a tad deranged. It's worth a watch.

and it reeks

I know that if I go to a bar or somewhere that there is smoke, I can smell it the next day in my hair if I don't shower.

I never used to be as sensitive to smelling it. But it seems like it is stronger.

Consequently I stay out of bars for the most part or places where there is smoke as it gives me maddening headaches.

and the cool thing is that anyone can hang here and smoke or no smoke, it's all good

except when it's bad (like when people are squabbling about the things in life that don't mean much really)

but even then, it's good in another thread

12. idgiehkt, I really like Christine Kane -- good choice!
Here's my mood lifter, reaffirms my faith in the human spirit:

Girlyman
"Young James Dean"

http://youtube.com/watch?v=0907FSsUUKs

In the back of a camouflage truck
They locked me in once with the materiel
I was full of a rage no one could handle
I was a private in the army
All the real girls with their backs turned called me crazy
Called me crazy

I worked for a while at a diner
Manager said I had to wear that little uniform
Said I was part of the problem
But I was in love with that blonde girl
She kissed me twice behind the counter
But when I asked her to get into my car
She called her man, said 'don't bother her'
She called her man, said 'don't bother her'

I guess I'll feel less than real all my life
With these feathers I made
Under me lifting me up
But I was a young James Dean
With a way with ladies
All the real boys in their black jeans called me crazy
Called me crazy
Called me crazy
Called me crazy

I don't meet many outside of Asheville. I hope someone will put some more of her stuff on youtube soon, She is a great singer.

That is a great song, I love seeing bands in small venues and festivals, I'd much rather see them this way than the arena thing.

31. I learned about her when she came out to Colorado to do a festival.
She played a great solo set, and then I bumped into her walking along the grass behind the stage. I stopped and thanked her for the set, told her she was one of the reasons I got out to the festival. She seemed genuinely glad to talk to a fan, and I got a real sense that she's a good person.

That, and great songwriting -- what's not to like?

44. yep, we are from the same town
And I've seen her tons of times live and also around town all the time when I used to live there. She is very down to earth but she does have a large presence to me, more than the average person. She has one of the most 'positive' auras I've ever seen as far as her music goes.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H2Ncxw1xfck
Electric Light Orchestra
Mr. Blue Sky
Sun is shinin' in the sky,
There ain't a cloud in sight
It's stopped rainin'
Everybody's in a play
And don't you know
It's a beautiful new day.

Runnin' down the avenue,(Pant, Pant, Pant)
See how the sun shines brightly
In the city on the streets
Where once was pity,
Mr. Blue Sky is living here today.

Mr. Blue Sky, please tell us why,
You had to hide away
For so long where did we go wrong.

Hey there Mr. Blue
We're so pleased to be with you
Look around see what you do,
Everybody smiles at you.

Hey you with the pretty face,
Welcome to the human race
A celebration Mr. Blue Sky's
Up there waitin' and today
Is the day we've waited for

Mr. Blue you did it right,
But soon comes Mr. Night,
Creepin' over, now his
Hand is on your shoulder,
Never mind I'll remember you this way.

and depressing.

But....

Kate Bush: Jig of Life

It's about not committing suicide. No link and I'm too tired to look up the lyrics. But a few random ones.

"Where on your palm is my little line when you're written on mine as an old memory?"
"Catch this kiss as it makes the land and you will dance in sunlit pools."

Quite beautiful and it's about how current despair can turn into future joy.

Hello, old lady.
I know your face well.
I know it well.

She says,
Ooh-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na!
Ill be sitting in your mirror.
Now is the place where the crossroads meet.
Will you look into the future?

Never, never say goodbye
To my part of your life.
No, no, no, no, no!
Oh, oh, oh,

Let me live!
She said.
Cmon and let me live, girl!
She said,
Cmon and let me live, girl!
(cmon and let me live!)

This moment in time,
(she said.)
It doesnt belong to you,
(she said,)
It belongs to me,

And to your little boy and to your little girl,
And the one hand clapping:
Where on your palm is my little line,
When youre written in mine
As an old memory?
Ooh, na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-

Never, never say goodbye
To my part of your life.
Oh no, no, no, no, no!
Never, never, never!
Never, never let me go!

She said,
Cmon and let me live, girl!
(cmon and let me live!)
She said,
Cmon and let me live, girl!
(cmon and let me live!)

I put this
Moment..............................................here.
I put this moment.........................here.
I put this moment--

Over here!
Over here!
Cant you see where memories are kept bright?
Tripping on the water like a laughing girl.
Time in her eyes is spawning past life,
One with the ocean and the woman unfurled,
Holding all the love that waits for you here.
Catch us now for I am your future.
A kiss on the wind and well make the land.
Come over here to where when lingers,
Waiting in this empty world,
Waiting for then, when the lifespray cools.
For now does ride in on the curl of the wave,
And you will dance with me in the sunlit pools.
We are of the going water and the gone.
We are of water in the holy land of water
And all thats to come runs in
With the thrust on the strand.

(I got tired of searching through live performances and this song is so clean I wanted to hear the studio version, I love it, despite the subject matter, lol)

122. I know that feeling
Edited on Fri Feb-09-07 01:30 PM by idgiehkt
I was watching "King of the Hill" one day and John Redcorn was talking about being so young and happy and then he turns to Hank and goes "and you wake up one day and you're forty. Forty." I'm stuck in that feeling of complete shock at how much time has passed. :(

111. Sister Sledge "We Are Family"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y2QN03JTxu8

Sister Sledge
We Are Family

(CHORUS:)
We are family
I got all my sisters with me
We are family
Get up ev'rybody and sing

Ev'ryone can see we're together
As we walk on by
(FLY!) and we fly just like birds of a feather
I won't tell no lie
(ALL!) all of the people around us they say
Can they be that close
Just let me state for the record
We're giving love in a family dose

(CHORUS x2)

Living life is fun and we've just begun
To get our share of the world's delights
(HIGH!) high hopes we have for the future
And our goal's in sight
(WE!) no we don't get depressed
Here's what we call our golden rule
Have faith in you and the things you do
You won't go wrong
This is our family Jewel

(REPEAT CHORUS TO FADE)

115. that's an amazing song
It always reminds me of the summer of 93 and all the pride marches and events of that year, including Washington, D.C., I guess because that was when ACT UP was raising so much hell and everything was so vital because of the AIDS crisis, I think the gay community was the most united then.

121. me too
It seems like half of us about got heat stroke when ACT Up did a die in in front of the white house and held up the march. There was no water and people were getting panicky because it was so hot. That march is one of my most treasured memories. I rode a bus for 8 hours to get there, marched, got back on the bus and rode 8 hours home. A lot of people did that. It was a joyous time.

124. you are right
they were really talented at being uplifing at the same time they were dealing with heavy complicated topics...I don't know many acts that can do that as rock bands, usually only folk acts can accomplish that. Another one that I like is "Fall on Me"; it makes me feel like the spirit that lives inside me is free of this material plane for just a few minutes, interesting since again they are dealing with a really deep topic (I think it might be acid rain but of course Stipes says they don't mean anything so maybe I'm wrong  )

really old live version:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=uDPJY2mxTO0

a-hole viacom is yanking everything off youtube this week, this is the first one I've found that there was only one loaded on here, probably because the video to this sucks so bad. They also took the MTV unplugged version too. Crap, I wonder if they got all the Nirvana unplugged stuff? Off to check...nope, some of it is still there.

141. I love that Blackalicious song...wow
what a beautiful smooth sound, nice jazz flow in the background too. It's gorgeous, how old is it? This is what mainstream hip-hop should sound like; this is how it started.

Wow, that Dead Milkmen video is such a blast from the past. Thanks for posting those. :hi:

143. thanks
that one is groovy. I love it.

Speaking of hip-hop, here is one from back in the more innocent days that I just love

Heavy D and the Boys - Now That We've Found Love
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C-HQ70kn3Mw
good old fashioned hip hop, plus the dance back then was so much more energetic than it is now, this song is just one big, long line and it cracks me up to listen to it every time. :)

I also love the dance in this, I love the guys in the white suits
Foxy Brown - I'll Be
