1. I am getting ready to get an I-pod
I wonder what download sites people recommend. Right now I just use the real store and half the time it doesn't have what I want. :(

3. Just use your CDs ...
You import the songs from your CDs into iTunes, then load them into your iPod. You can download songs from the iTunes store for 99 cents each. If I want only one song from a group, download it, else get the CD and import it in.

8. I use eMusic.com
Especially useful if you like independent/alternative type stuff but they also have a large selection of everything else. You won't find the major label hits there though since they don't only deal with independent labels. Here's their About Us page. One of the great things about them is you can redownload anything you've already paid for as many times as you want.

2. You REALLY need to check out LimeWire.
That's where I get all my music. And it's free.

10. my understanding
and I'm not an IT person, so its not real clear...is that it somehow messes with little pockets of data storage and it just spreads until you have lost tons of space - it happened to my sister's computer and she ended up having to get a new one mostly (but not entirely) because of it. We were told to stay away from limewire by the tech people who tried to fix her computer.

12. I haven't had that problem at ALL, and I monitor my system closely.
And if you look below, underpants' IT guy even recommends it.

6. Try emusic
Edited on Fri Feb-09-07 01:30 PM by slj0101
9.95 to start for 30 downloads a month. Excellent, ever-growing selection. Mostly indie stuff. And if you sign up now, you get 25 free downloads. I love it there.

11. i download cd's from the library
or at least someone eles collection.

btw, i can not find much of the left banke anywhere. My wife was looking for "Pretty Ballerina" and it took requesting it at a local radio station with an incrediable library to find it.

14. That's also what I do.
My county library system has an absolutely killer CD selection. Once I'm money ahead, I plan on giving them a generous donation.

21. If that's what you are doing, don't donate to the library...
Get the money in the artists' hands.

13. If you don't mind not paying, I recommend a delicate combination of...
Soulseek and Bit Torrent (I recommend the µtorrent client, and mininova.org).

17. Yep.
uTorrent is definitely the client to have.

Snag an invite to Oink and (if you really like independent music) Indie Torrents and you'll be all set.

18. I have an Oink account but my share ratio is shit because whenever I seed, it never works.
Haven't had any luck getting in on the Indie Torrents scene.

20. Really? I've always been able to seed Oink stuff pretty easy.
But then I really don't get too much music over there. I snag a few audio books and preview different comics to see what books I want to start reading.

Check your PM.

22. Yeah, I think it's because I tend to go for the more obscure stuff...
That not many people are downloading, so I have no one to seed to.

25. I'll sometimes jump on a popular advance even if I don't want it
Just to boost my share.

I seeded the new Apples in Stereo for weeks! I must have uploaded over half a gig. Plus it turned out to be a pretty fabulous album to boot.

I just was trying to replace all the tapes that got beer sogged over the years.

Soul Asylum's "The Horse they rode in on" is a great album and I just realized that I didn't have a copy anymore :-(

I don't know about Left Banke. Replace Left Banke with The Replacements and you would've had the trifecta.
