Should it bother me that everyone at work forgot my birthday?
It's tomorrow but we usually celebrate weekend birthdays on the Friday before. I am the one who remembers everyone else's birthdays so I guess I shouldn't be too surprised to be forgotten but, on the other hand, I've been here 15 years and most of my co-workers have been here longer so you'd think someone would. But, nope.

Oh well...

1. No, it should not bother you
But I don't blame you if it does.

The thing is, some people remember stuff like that - you obviously do - and other people don't. I haven't the faintest idea when anyone's birthday is of the people I work with, though I've worked with many of them for 7 years and have gotten them gifts or cards when I found out that it was.

I find that it helps me to remember that I'm there to do a job, not to make friends. If I make friends in the process, cool - and I have. But I don't have the same expectations of co-workers that I do of the friends I have in other areas.

Happy Birthday.

4. I've been trying to get everyone at work to forget my birthday for three years
Edited on Fri Feb-09-07 04:44 PM by Tyo
I don't enjoy the fuss. My partner takes me out to dinner and that's plenty. I'm happy to celebrate birthdays when the star of the show enjoys celebrating too. When it's my turn though, I'd rather not.

BTW, Happy Birthday!:hi:

6. My SO forgets it too.....
He thinks it's the 11th. Even though we have been together almost ten years...

Thanks for the good wishes, everyone! I'm not feeling too sorry for myself, it's not as though it hasn't happened before. And I'm getting to an age when I might want to begin forgetting myself soon....:hi:

11. I forgot my SO's B-day once
It won't happen a second time, that's for sure.

Leverage your SO's forgetfulness into a new espresso machine or dinner at a really good restuarant or whatever it is that you'd like. That approach worked for my guy.

5. Happy Birthday!
I normally dont want people at work to celebrate my birthday,

but if you've been doing the remembering for everyone else, SOMEONE should have the common courtesy to return the favor.

in my office only one person monitors birthdays. We have a tendency to forget about his birthday, because he doesn't remind us to get cake. I personally make an effort to remind people of my birthday, because I know it's hard to keep track of such things. Heck, my parents forget my birthday sometimes, too. And I know I forget birthdays all the time.
Happy Birthday

15. It would bother me.
Someone should put forth an effort since you do it for everyone else.

Here are a few office birthday cake stories for you.

At one of my jobs, there was one woman in a department full of men who always baked a cake for the men's birthdays. As a joke, they brought in a pan and cake mix for her birthday and told her to bake herself a cake. It was pretty funny and she was a good sport about it. But then they brought out the real cake. I would've given them a bad time if they hadn't ... we were friends and I took her out to lunch, but I had told the guys they'd better do something.

An idea my husband's job worked out great for them. If you had a birthday, it was your job to find out when the next birthday was and bring in a cake. That way, everyone had to participate. If you failed, you wouldn't get a cake next year. When it was his turn, he borrowed gourmet cookbooks from the library and baked some pretty exotic cakes. I think it would have been cheaper to buy a cake, but he had his reputation to protect (yeah, he's a good cook). :9

Anyway, I hope you have a wonderful birthday tomorrow. And I hope they have something special planned for Monday. :hi:

I'm grateful when no one mentions mine. Who wants to explain that I am as old as dirt?
