"Prince's Super Bowl prancing was downright pornographic!"
Edited on Sat Feb-10-07 07:07 PM by Bluebear
Prince's Super Bowl prancing was downright pornographic

Dear Editor, I watched the Super Bowl Sunday night and awaited the halftime with expectation.

What? Prince?

It was raining, his group sang, danced frenetically and the Number One Marching Band was barely shown.

But Prince ... It was his last number. He took his fancy guitar, the one with the weird shape. Then a curtain went up to show his silhouette. Did people miss it? The camera proceeded to show his "tail" sticking out a la devil from his behind.

Oh wait, that's not enough.

Then he turned the guitar around to show off a frontal view resembling a big, how can I say it delicately, phallic devilish symbol. Then the curtain came down, he ended it with an evil look of I did it and got away with it, what are you going to do about it?

Morality? Primetime entertainment for all! I don't think so. The powers that be should realize that this is not just adult entertainment. It is for all ages. We have enough junk out there. How about some respect and better screening? This was not wardrobe malfunction but done intentionally.

Yvonne Harrell

Edited on Sun Feb-11-07 03:15 AM by Bluebear
She was only half watching, or maybe at Bingo because she could care less about football unless it's Mighty Mighty Crusaders football - her grandson's junior high team. But around Thursday someone at church called her to sign a petition about this, because the preacher heard it from the janitor who heard it from his buddy who read it on the internet. So she wrote this hot letter to the editor about how upset she was.

If that woman is so concerned about morality, she ought to be writing to the paper complaining about the immorality of the Bush crime family, but I'd be willing to bet she proudly voted for the bastard.

with his thin waist and tight buns, until I couldn't stand any more hot throbbing and I had to go to the bathroom and release myself in a wall of painful ecstacy, unlike anything my Christian husband ever gave me.

It was disgusting, what that man did. Because of him, I had an orgasm, and that's not Christian.

And basically gives parents with small children watching the Superbowl the finger. Symptomatic of our Bush culture where decency and civility and respect for others no longer exist because we have a Pretzeldent who gets away with anything and just smirks at us the way Prince did on Super Bowl Sunday after he pulled off his spoiled-rotten-twisted-little-shit tasteless stunt. Appropriate for an off-the-strip Vegas show? Perhaps, for those adults who go for low-life cheesy sleazy junk culture (like most of the posters in this thread). For the Superbowl? No way.

Oh, and a rousing "fuck you too" to all your smartass asshole detractors in this thread.

59. I'm not the "tight-ass" - I used the image to illustrate a point -
-that Prince sounds like he's either singing through his arse, or squealing his nasal pitches as if he's trying too hard to excrete a hardened clot.

Guess some tight-ass disliked that image so much they ran off squealing like stuck pigs to the mods to get my post deleted. Pathetic.

58. Bush didn't start it, but he's allowing it to continue and prosper...
Directly or indirectly, the nation's morale could be a factor in the amok selfishness going on these days.

And when somebody wants to put up a punishment system, everybody cries "FREEDOM OF SPEECH!!"

And that happens on both sides, which is the scariest aspect of them all.

Now even I, with my variable crudity, keep a solid line drawn. of course, I also 'live in the 70s'; it's no shock many find parts of my sense of humor to be dim or trite; it can be quite passe. (but maybe I should get with the times and emulate Sarah Silverman, Trey Parker, Dave Chappelle, or Seth MacFarlane... skeet skeet skeet... :eyes: )

With freedom comes responsibility. Or maybe I watched "Spider-Man" one too many times...

And I will submit: I have NOT seen Prince's supposed naughty incident at the end. I do know he played a 25 year old song, one that wasn't nearly as good done live as it was when recorded 25 years ago (I did try watching it but after 2 minutes, I said "this is naff" and closed the browser window... I'll spare the MPAA rant for another day.)

But I will also admit; Prince has done some dim things before. And deserved every lampooning he got in response. (I frequently post a sketch of 'In Living Color' from youtube featuring that Prince parody of an incident he got away with ~17 years ago... it's sick, admittedly funny, but also points out a sad truth about the guy and our society in general. But what used to be lampooned is now commonplace. Just like The Lion King being lampooned as a stageplay in "The Critic" (1994) and is sadly now a real stage play, sheesh... that desperate for money, are they?!)

She was expecting Prince and Madonna to croon that utterly popular Mary Poppins song, "Go Fly a Kite"?!

I don't think so!!

With tuppence for paper and strings,
you can have your own set of wings.
With your feet on the ground,
you're a bird in flight!
With your fist holding tight,
to the string of your kite!

Let's go fly a kite
Up to the highest height
Let's go fly a kite
And send it soaring
Up through the atmosphere
Up where the air is clear
Oh, let's go fly a kite!

When you send it flying up there,
all at once your lighter than air!
You can dance on the breeze,
over 'ouses and trees!
With your fist 'olding tight,
to the string your kite!

Let's go fly a kite
Up to the highest height
Let's go fly a kite
And send it soaring
Up through the atmosphere
Up where the air is clear
Oh, let's go fly a kite!

53. Doesn't she understand that sensationalism sells?
Should the thing formerly known then renamed himself as Prince be held accountable?

Or the suits who knew full well he'd be doing something 'tastefully questionable' because it's going to bring in sponsors and big bucks?

I miss the day when nudging the envelope was vogue (the 1970s). These days it's well past even pushing the envelope (80s and arguably early 90s), it's putting the envelope through the shredder.

And once the envelope is gone, what's going to attract the masses? /rhetorical
