Poll question: How Many Cups Of Coffee Do You Drink A Day?
An interesting on-line survey at the UAE news website concerning coffee use. I think people here drink the stuff at about the same rate as people there, my wife thinks there is no comparison. I thought I'd ask here and compare results.

How many cups of coffee do you drink a day?

I see coffee and tobacco as drugs that I have given up 27 years ago.

59. Good for you!
I know I would feel better, sleep better, and look better if I quit or at least cut way back on my coffee. I just had a 20 oz. Starbucks house coffee with half and half and a scone. No self-control.

I thank all the gods of every known pantheon that I quit smoking years ago before cigs got so danged expensive. And I strongly believe that they are now laced with something to make them more addictive than ever. Can't imagine any other reason so many people would be so hooked on something so destructive.

Wish I had read your post before I went to Fred Meyer and saw that Starbucks kiosk. Not that I didn't already know caffeine is a drug, it's just something I don't think about. :banghead:

20. I love my French press.
But when I use it, usually there's a bit of Bailey's in me cup and some whipped cream on top. It isn't ready until it's Reddi-Whipped, as the commercial says.

My reasoning is that the alcohol takes the edge off the caffeine and turns it into a more healthy beverage.

7. Drinking Lots of Coffee is Very, Very Good For You
Studies show that it leads to greatly-reduced incidence of diabetes, Parkinson's disease, and various cancers.

Older folks that drink more coffee have more sex.

There are known known side effects of any significance.

And it's a lot of fun.

Coffee is awesome.

(My asbestos underwear has been donned in anticipation of the evidence-free posts to follow, telling me how bad coffee is for us...)

....my grandmother and aunt died of diabetes...my mom has diabetes...only my aunt drank hers with sugar...also my bf's grandfather died of complications of Alzheimer's and drank lots of coffee so you can add that disease to the list as well...so that *theory* is just that...someones THEORY...no flames just fact.

....plenty of evidence here for me to believe different from those *studies*...eventhough I myself love it too and drink one or two cups daily with sugar and cream.

My tiny kitchen is largely given over to coffee-making equipment. And that one cup in the morning is a major event for me! I'm considering going into roasting the beans, but there might be a problem in venting the smoke. I set off the smoke detector often enough as it is. 17. None - I like bubbles in my caffeine
Plus the bitter bitter brew is so bitter, that when I have resorted to drinking it, I've had to add an inch of sugar to a cup of it, alarming the witnesses and generally grossing everybody out (except me).

The s.o. (Too Much Coffee Spouse) is another story - but my mom's heart attack coffee made an impression nevertheless. :P

Coffee shouldn't be that bitter, even if it's strong. It should be less bitter than a dry-hopped ale (and those are delicious too.)

50. I don't actually know how to make coffee.
The s.o. has one of those cyber-espresso gizmos - I never learned to use it, touched the "off" button twice in the last 4 years. I don't make coffee at work either.

Even Starbucks' caramel macchiattos need a pound of sugar, IMO. Maybe I have overdeveloped bitter detection taste buds, since I don't drink the stuff. Same with salt; I stopped salting my food when I was 15, and ever since, anything that has the smallest amount of salt tastes very salty to me. Anything that has large amounts of salt just plain burns.

58. If you add sugar to caramel macchiatos from Starbucks
then yeah, you must have highly sensitive bitterness taste buds - because that stuff is pretty much pure sugar already.

It's all subjective. I like caffeine with bubbles too. :)

Edited on Sun Feb-11-07 01:08 PM by catmandu57
I'd go through a couple pots per day, especially at white knuckle AA meetings, eventually though I came back to earth and don't need the crutch now. I have cut my consumption down to three eight oz cups a day now, I don't like the speedy trip anymore.
Occasionally, now when I've got too strong a reefer buzz going I'll have a cup to even out my buzz.

edit: too much coffee forgot a word.

Sugared, unsugared, creamed, poured in a tennis shoe, I don't care, I'll drink it. I was at my worst in Japan, where there are coffee vending machines every 10 feet (anyone who's lived there knows I'm only slightly exaggerating), hot in the winter, cold in the summer. Heaven.

49. Nice poll, but don't count on it much for comparison's sake
The difference between the coffee found in the UAE(and Middle East in general) and the coffee found in the US(even the strongest brew) is like the difference between near-beer and Guiness. It isn't just the difference in beans, it is the difference in grinds, machinery used, and amounts used, among other things.

I've had real ME coffee, and frankly one small cup generally equals about three-four cups of American brew in terms of kick. But damn, the stuff is good, and I'm fortunate to have a Jordanian owned coffee shop nearby(complete with hookahs) that makes authentic ME coffee, along with milder stuff for the American crowd.

I myself have one large mug in the morning, and perhaps another cup if I'm in town.

61. That really depends.
I drink Turkish/Middle Eastern style coffee. Have an ibrik (middle eastern coffee pot) and everything. The coffee has to be ground extremely fine (finer than an espresso grind--it's basically powder), but most grocery stores will have a grinder that does Turkish, and just about any good dark-roast whole-bean coffee will work (you need cardamom, too, though; I get mine at the local international market and grind it fresh every morning).
