Probably the best rock song about Abe Lincoln...ever!
Probably the only rock song about Abe Lincoln, but anyway, in honor of his birthday:

http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=54129931

By "Best Friends Forever."

WARNING: If you are a humor-impaired, Heavy Metal fan, you won't like this group.

My transcription of the song:

Abraham Lincoln: I would like to go back in time and be your wife. Not because I’d be the First Lady but because I think you’re charming. I know you were an unhappy man. You married old, they say. I could have made you a happy man who laughed and danced and sang. And I would have recited Shakespeare with you, let you read all the good lines. You could have been Iago and Othello every time. I would have done your shopping for you, bought you your tall pants. I would have been presently affectionate. I would have put my hand in your long hand. And if I had been on the balcony at Ford’s Theater when Mr. Booth came up with gun in hand, I would have put my head in front of your head. Abraham Lincoln: I would like to go back in time and be your wife. Not because you saved the Union, but because I think you’re hot stuff. I know you were intelligent, telling stories all the time. And I bet we’d have the same sense of humor. We’d laugh until we died. And I would have spent hours combing your hair putting every one in place. But, if you got nervous and messed it up, it would have been ok. Cause we could have had messy hair together. And we could have had the most beautiful children together. I would have been a perfect mother to Eddie and Willie and Tad and Robbie and I wouldn’t have let them get the fever or smallpox or malaria. If I had been on the balcony of Ford’s Theater when Mr. Booth came up with gun in hand, I would have put my head in front of your head. I would have put my head in front of your head.

4. Cranky.
Sometimes it happens (about once a month).

I had to hide from my family today. 'Spent a few hours in my workshop and made good progress on a project, though.

I will PM you soon with names...:-)

And I LOVED that song.

16. Happy Birthday Abie Baby

Four score
I said four score and seven years ago
Oh sock it to 'em baby, you're sounding better all the time!
Our forefathers, I mean all our forefathers
Brought forth upon this here continent a new nation
Conceived, conceived like we all was
In liberty, and dedicated to the one I love
I mean dedicated to the proposition
That all men, honey, I tell you all men
Are created equal

Happy birthday, Abie baby,
Happy birthday to you
Happy birthday, Abie baby,
Happy birthday to you

14. Poor Charles
It's Darwin's birthday too, and he doesn't get a song.

I believe CCR's "Abraham, Martin and John" might be considered a rock song. Otherwise googling "Lincoln song" led me to "son, you are gonna drive me to drinkin' if you don't stop driving that hot rod Lincoln"

Good point on AMJ! "Hot Rod Lincoln" is a great song, but I don't think it has anything to do with Abe.

:yourock:

On edit: We should (or someone should) write a song about Darwin. He deserves it and he was certainly an interesting, conflicted person. Maybe Best Friends Forever would be up for the challenge.

there must be dozens about Abe!

18. A rock song about James K. Polk?
Well, how do I know it's true unless you post a link (or at least lyrics)????

(I hope there are more songs about Lincoln than Polk.)

There are lots of videos for the song, but all appear to be homemade. You should also check out the one of the kids singing it on stage:

23. Of course!
D'oh, again. Who, besides TMBG, would write a song about James K. Polk? (Those were very brave kids, BTW.)

Here's one of my favorites:
