2. Boyle steals a bunch
Edited on Wed Jan-07-04 02:55 AM by jpgray
The shopping scene is taken from Dawn of the Dead, the soldier stuff from Day of the Dead, and the emptiness in the beginning is stolen from Omegaman. :D

If your nightmare came 4 weeks later... Okay, okay, maybe not so much cool as 'freaky' ;-)

I thought it was good...
not great.

Based on a few earlier works, notably Omega Man.

You should read "I am Legend", the novella on which it's based. THAT was good. Also written by the same guy who wrote the short story that was turned into the Trilogy of Terror segment where Karen Black gets attacked by that little zuni fetish doll. God, I loved that :)

14. it's definitely worth a rental...
Unfortunately, I have a horrible affliction which causes me to BUY DVD's. I have well over a thousand.

I figure I can own a DVD for 20 bucks, watch it with my boyfriend or other friends ANY time I want and it's cheaper than going out to the movies. Of course, I still go out to the movies all the time ;)

26. If you're that into DVD's...
it's definitely worth buying. It's not just an entertaining movie (scary as hell in some parts) but it's got a lot of interesting camera work and excellent use of music to counterpoint the action. Any comparison to "Omega Man" and the "Day of the Dead" flicks is off the mark, IMO, because it's very different in feel from those.

I don't understadn why anyone would ever want to own more than a dozen DVDs. Every street-corner has a video rental joint!

34. Was it ever established that...
...these "zombies" actually ATE the uninfected? That seems to be an assumption that people have carried over from other zombie movies. The creatures in 28 Days Later weren't even zombies in the traditonal sense, that is, they were not reanimated corpses and I don't think it was ever stated that they fed on flesh--fresh or otherwise. Oh yeah, and I didn't like the movie either.

29. I agree. It sucked.
The film was bout the "infected" right? Why is it that the "infected" were so weakly explored? We got about 20 minutes of zombies at the beginning of the film, a buncha (pointless) character development filler, and then about 15 min of zombies at the end.

23. I identified with the Infected.
I was in a REALLY bad mood when I watched it. All that snarly Tasmanian Devil rage!!! Good times! (Comes every 28 days, too!!)

Anyway, can't someone puh-lease tell me the alternative endings? I saw the one that would be on a rented VHS tape and it's not likely that I'll rent/buy the DVD any time soon.

33. alright *SPOILERS*
The first alternative ending is the one shown in theatres after the credits. It is an expansion of the scene shortly after the crash where the lead is being rushed through the hospital on a gurney. The black woman tries to resucitate him but to no use. The girl, still in her gown, asks "what are we going to do now?" Finally the black woman realizes the lead is dead, picks up the gun, and says, "let's move". Ending shot shows the women in silouette each holding a gun walking away from the operation room as the doors swing shut. It's a really good shot.

The End

I thought this was the best of all four, apparently so did the writer and director. Fucking producers.

The second alternative ending is just a follow up to the previous. It's exactly the same as the theatrical ending. They're in the country and wave to a fighter jet. Except Jim is not there.

The End

I kind of felt cheated.

The third alternative ending is a radical rewrite. The plot with the soldiers is completely written out. It's shown entirely in storyboard.

They get to the base and the Dad gets infected but they knock him out and tie him up. They find the lab where it all started and decide to hole up there. They find in one locked room a survivor with a bunch of food who won't let them in but claims he knows a cure to the infection. After some more fights with the infected and some pleading, the mad scientist claims that the infection is in the blood and with a complete removal of infected blood and tranfusion of new blood the infection can be cured. Problem is they haven't any blood. So turns out Jim has same blood type as dad. They tie Jim, voluntarily apparently, and switch his blood for dad. Dad recovers and Jim is infected. Dad and the girls hide out with the scientist until all the infected starve.

The End.

24. why animal liberationists?
why not skinheads or narcs acting like they animal liberationists? that would be a more honest portrayal of real world, wouldn't it? Wouldn't true animal lovers detect that the chimps are insane, and content themselves with pictures? Why was it a woman, paralysed with 'love' for cuddly critters, the one to open the 1st cage? (why not one of the men)? progressives, animal lovers, tree huggers and the 'politically correct' have made world better place....any look at history can see that most nationwide horrors are inflicted by reactionary pigs etc. right? And the warjet at the end...does a warjet REALLY represent survival, hope, dignity, the future, generosity, well being and life?

32. I found it quite believable.
Animal liberationists broke into a lab at my alma mater. They released all of the animals (which were domesticated and thus were sure to die on their own) and poured sulfuric acid all over the research books, ruining years of research. And that was a psychology lab, they were running rats through mazes. Thank god they couldn't get to the primate lab.

In another incident, animal liberationists broke into a mink farm and opened all the cages. The hundreds of mink, following mink instinct, immediately attacked each other and the vast majority killed each other. With the exception being a dozen or so that got away and the mink that were killed by the liberationists that were running away and stepped on them.

I'm sure animal liberationists have good intentions, but the road to hell is paved in good intentions.

Especially the fact that there were not many special effects, it was all in the camera work and editing... Brilliant... Should see the alternate ending too... I tend to prefer dark endings...
