Although, with a name like that, it ought to be a doppelbock, which is a lager, not an ale.

1. American breweries
tend to part from naming conventions. I've seen a Hefeweizen called a "Hefeweizen Lager-Ale" whatever the hell that is.

5. Yeah, I can agree with that...
however, and to take my local brewpub into consideration (Look up the Hilltop Brewery on Pubcrawler.com ...it's in Virginia Beach), some brewers don't know beer from piss, and that is reflected in their products.

At this particular brewery, the brewmaster took all of his bad habits of homebrewing to the micro-brew. It's a shame, too, because the Hilltop is the only brewery around here.
