How the HELL am I supposed to remember that I don't like cats, when
the damn kitten keeps draping herself over the back of my neck, thereby warming my bad shoulder, and purring the whole time?

I really DON'T like cats. But this one is kind of OK, I suppose, I guess, if I really HAVE to admit it. Grumble, grumble.

They're sweet creatures. Pure love. Sharp claws. Hope you don't have a kneader.

7. I now have 3.
The third one showed up a few weeks ago - a stray. He's very sweet. I couldn't turn him away.

I have sworn that the third kitty will never cross the doorway.

But I draw the line at canned food. That stuff looks and smells as bad going into the cat as it does coming out of it.

12. My mom had a cat whose life she saved.
That kitty would sleep next to whatever hurt on my mom and the purring and warmth really felt good to her. Amazing but she did know what was hurting. She was kind of like tylenol in purrform!

13. Many cats seem to sense where the boo-boos are
And they WILL give comfort. Just accept the kitty-magic-healing and respect that cats can and do pick their people. Sometimes a cat goes through a lot to find the human that needs their attention. Just accept it. Marvel at how fate works and count yourself blessed.

You're a goner, big guy. That cat has your number MAJORLY

18. She was a rescue-shelter cat. Supposed to be our older son's choice, because
his cat had died a week or two before.

Came down to choosing between Marcy and her brother. Guess who was chosen.

I've never been fond of a cat before, but I like this one. The puppy does, too.

Edited on Tue Feb-13-07 12:05 AM by idgiehkt
even now occasionally I will hear of a rescue. There are several cases in court where the animal was rescued and adopted out too soon and now the owners are fighting to get them back. It's so sad what happened down there, I'll never be the same after watching it.

This is a very touching video of some of the rescue that went on there in the aftermath.

I'm with you, NOLA animal rescue:

It will break your heart though.

Is get a kitten and a puppy about the same age...They'll play together and entertain you for years. And make you forget that you're a "dog person" or a "cat person".

23. I'm in the same boat.
I hate cats except for my friend's cats and the one's that me and my ex rescued. It's hard to hate them when they are so freakin mellow. Plus, you gotta love a pet that can crap in a box- very low maintenance. I also like their "who gives a rat's ass" - type of mentality. You walk in the door and the cat is like "whoopee you're home, I'm napping". Dogs will knock themselves out trying to run to you to lick your shoes. It's easier to hate them when they yak in your shoes or you have to clean up a nasty litter box.

27. I had a feral wild ass cat from the hills of North Georgia
This cat wass crack ass crazy and a hoot to boot. It looked normal, but would climb sheetrock when it got bored and would tear up the toys that we tossed him. He was a cool cat- he probably still is cool, but the ex has him.
I know if I ever get another cat, it'll have to be a black cat so the hair wont screw up my black pants and sweaters.

32. we had a cat who had amazing healing powers....
..except she couldn't heal herself (though I suspect she lived much longer than any other cat would have with her problems).

She'd been dumped in our neighborhood, was an older girl (10+) and decided our home was "it". We had two other cats then, so taking in a third was easy, and she was a terrific girl (and the best mouser I've ever known). Problem is, she had WILD, thrashing dreams and the very day we were moving out of our house, she thrashed right off the second story deck and broke her tail - far enough back so it didn't affect bowel or other control, her tail just hung limply.

Anyway - our neighbors LOVED her, and said they'd care for her - we were going away for 3 weeks and I didn't want to board her with an injury. The wife spoon-fed this cat (Neener) cream cheese, tuna, etc. - you get the picture. Neener had her own special bed, was carried to the litter box, etc.

We came back from our vacation to find out the husband had cancer, and he begged us to let them keep her. He said she'd sit on his chest and purr and he swore he could feel the disease being pulled out of him by her. It was a weird thing for him to say, because whenever I'd been upset, I'd sit Neener on my chest and she'd just settle in, purr, and it felt like she was wicking away the sadness or pain. She was magical.

And the husband was fine, got over his cancer no problem. Neener died shortly after that, and he was (we all were) devastated. There's a kitty grave with a headstone and flowers in their backyard.

I love cats - have 7, and am trying to figure out how to handle a feral male who keeps hanging around - but some of them really are very, very attuned to their people.

I'm glad she's your buddy, and helping you feel better.

End of rambling post!

Revered by the Chinese and other cultures for centuries.

They know what we need without us telling them.

I've been a "cat whisperer" since I was 4 years old.

I have a "nursemaid" kitty too. If I'm not feeling well, she curls up right next to me & purrs. When one of my cats was dying of cancer, she played "nursemaid" for her too, sleeping next to her & purring the whole time.

She loves you. You will love her. Resistance is futile.
