I need Laptop recommendations
Nothing super fancy, around $1000 or less. Need to be able to run MS Office and I need wireless. Basically, a school/web surfing machine :D

So let me hear it! :bounce:

1. My brother got a really nice HP in August...
for school. I think he spent $1,100 on it, but he's an IIS major (computers, graphic design, internet security and web-design) so he needed a lot more computer than you sound like you need. Next computer I buy will be an HP, unless I custom build.

Not a Dell. Dell is an evil company producing awful equipment run by one of GWB's biggest funders.

8. Either that or get a copy off of somebody else.
Not that I would suggest you use pirated software ever.

;)

10. Can you get a software discount through school too? Usually you can get new
software for next to nothing that way.

12. You'll have to acquire it somehow,
But even if you have to pay for it, you can find solace in the fact that Microsoft actually creates quality products for Mac, as opposed to the complete crap they sell for PC's.

13. Your school might have CHEAP MS Office....
Does your school have its own computer store? I work at a large university that has its own store for computer hardware/software and accessories.

The university has a licensing agreement with Microsoft that allows them to sell MS Office to us (students and staff) for $20 or so. It's not the full-throttle Office that you'd buy in the stores, but it has Word, Excel, and Powerpoint. I think the PC-based version also has Outlook but I'm not positive. No books, no instructions, no nothing - just a CD for installation.

11. Dell offers great school discounts.
You can probably get exactly what you need from them for $500-$600.

Get a good deal on MS Office from them as well.

I bought an Inspiron 600 that way two years ago. Excellent machine, and I had good luck with their customer service. You might get a really good deal on an older machine from Dell, refurbished. Check their web site.
