Turn off your cell phones!
I got a harsh reminder today about why you should always be careful about when and where you leave your phone turned on.

Normally I'm pretty lax about my cell. There are very few people who know the number, and they all know better than to call me during the day unless it's an emergency. However, this morning, as I was sitting right in the middle of a crowded lecture hall, my phone buried in the pocket of my folded-up coat on the seat next to me, somebody somewhere dialed a wrong number. Not only did I miss the last 2/3 of what was apparently a very entertaining lecture, I also got humiliated in front of my entire graduating class.

Both the professor and the guest lecturer were very forgiving, especially when I came back after class to apologize, but I'm still mentally :banghead:ing.

sigh... :-(

1. I turn mine to vibrate anytime I go inside a store, building, or house
I hate hearing everyone else's ringtones, and I feel that it is highly unsociable to walk around on the phone all the time. If I do get a call in public, I cower and run outside while I whisper into the receiver.

3. I sometimes just take the battery out before class.
I don't like the sing-song chime that my phone makes as I'm turning it off, and in some cases, like class, I'd rather just remove the battery than listen to the extra noise generated by turning it off.

What REALLY bothers me is when a friend invites me over, only for me to sit and wait while he/she finishes an hour-long conversation with somebody. I think, you couldn't be bothered to tell me I'd be sitting around and waiting all this time?
