what is it with women and stuffed teddy bears?

there is a new ad on TV selling valentine teddy bears. shows a woman in an office getting one of the bears and all the other women in the office coming over squealing in delight over the bear and the men in the office going to their p.c. to order up a bear for their women.

I've never understood why a grown woman would go all ga ga over stuffed teddy bears. some pre schoolers might like teddy bears, but grown women?

they collect them and display them (beds are a prime place they display them).

it's embarrassing.

1. I don't know ANY women who would want a teddy bear for Valentine's Day.
Or any other occasion.

I know women who would graciously accept one because it's the thought that counts, but WANT one? No.

I don't want a teddy bear. I don't know what on earth I'd do with it except give it to my kids, who already have a surplus of stuffed animals.

My 7-year-old has two favorite teddy bears, both from my parents. She loves them. But she's 7.

22. I've known some pretty intelligent & liberal women who loved them
and, yes, these are adult women.

but I'm not sure what "liberal" has to do with it.

2. it's a scam
telling unsuspecting males that women over the age of 18 really want them. Then the poor guy gets one for her, and she gets p*ssed off, saying "what on earth would make you think I would want a teddy bear?" Isn't marketing great! :sarcasm:

3. I think it's men who THINK women would want a teddy bear.
I can't imagine why, either. Now, I've been given beautiful little animal figurines, and glittery little snakes, and that's a little more my speed - but a teddy bear? I would be like, "Uh ... cute, yeah ... thanks...." And then start thinking about which friend's kid might really enjoy a new toy. :)

Watch that commercial carefully and you see how much one of them costs $79. ouch, but at least unlike flowers it's not gone in a few days.

26. yes.
It it such a load of bunk. I am owned by a male and therefore my existence is validated. You are not so go kill yourselves after you make cooing noises over my child's toy produced from slave labor in China that put countless americans out of work and decimated the middle class.

20. So you're complaining about people who are paid to say things they don't mean
and going on to apply their behavior to all women in general... Gotcha.

14. Well, I do have a collection of stuffed Dem donkeys
With red, white, and blue decoration, which I put out on the table at the polls to help hold down the literature.

My S.O. accused me of having stuffed animals, and I hardly thought Dem Donkeys count.

17. I'll take a diamond or emerald
in the shape of a teddy bear any day.

But, woe be it to any man who would give me a stuffed bear as a gift. I am not a little girl, and would consider it an insult to receive a stuffed animnal as an indicator of "love".

A card with a personal inscription is far more adult than the gift of a teddy bear. :eyes:

My boyfriend did give me a stuffed meerkat (among other things) for Christmas, but that's because we enjoy watching "Meerkat Manor" together.

25. It's not embarassing. They are soft and cute and fluffy and I love them.
Seriously, I love stuffed animals. However, I gave all of mine to my daughter when she got old enough to enjoy them bc it looks weird in an adult bedroom lol.

I don't really get them as gifts, but I wouldn't be upset if I did - they're charming and lovely (as long as they aren't ugly).
