do you have a story about him that would be uplifting? I, for one, would like to hear it!

25. Yes I do!

He lived in San Fransisco and was what you would think of as a "cool" uncle. He was the one who would send me $100 in a birthday card when I was 10 just to surprise the heck out of me. This was 1980 and I thought I was RICH! He owned a flower shop and was a sheriff's deputy. He was the one who taught my mother how to make goulash with the recipe I still use today. He was the first person I ever knew who drank soda in the morning instead of coffee. We didn't get to see him too often but when we did we had the best time. He died of AIDS related illness in 1987. This was part of the reason that we didn't see him often; he thought we wouldn't accept him for who he was. He was wrong, but somehow I hope he knows that. In dying, he gave me a great gift. To become active and fight for equal rights for all of our country's citizens.

MoseyWalker, thank you for bringing up the name Uncle Bob tonight and giving me a chance to share just a small bit of him.

His name was Robert F. Paulsen...and he is missed.
