Okay...about this weather...
From the National Weather Service:
...HISTORIC SNOWSTORM ON THE WAY FOR VALENTINES DAY...

SNOW WILL OVERSPREAD THE REGION FROM SOUTHWEST TO NORTHEAST THIS EVENING. THE SNOW WILL BECOME HEAVY AT TIMES BY THE MORNING DRIVE ON WEDNESDAY...REACHING ONE TO TWO INCHES PER HOUR WITH AROUND 6 INCHES ACCUMULATED ON THE GROUND. THEN...THE SNOWFALL RATE WILL LIKELY DIMINISH TO ABOUT HALF AN INCH PER HOUR MIDDAY AND A LITTLE SLEET MIGHT MIX IN AT TIMES. AT THE SAME TIME...A NORTHEAST WIND WILL INCREASE OVER THE HIGHER TERRAIN TO THE TUNE OF 15 TO 25 MPH WITH HIGHER GUSTS...WHICH WILL BEGIN TO BLOW AND DRIFT THE SNOW AROUND.

THE LULL WILL NOT LAST LONG. HEAVY SNOW WILL RETURN DURING THE AFTERNOON AS MESO-SCALE BLINDING SNOW BANDS COULD PRODUCE INCREDIBLE LOCALIZED SNOWFALL RATES UP TO 6 INCHES PER HOUR ALONG WITH THUNDER SNOW. MOST ROADS WILL LIKELY BECOME IMPASSABLE DURING THE AFTERNOON. THE WIND WILL TURN NORTHERLY AND INCREASE IN THE HUDSON VALLEY CAUSING BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW THERE AS WELL...

Does anyone know WTF a "Meso-scale blinding snow band" is?:wtf:

Anyhow - hunkering down for the snowfall - turned off the alarm clock and let the little one stay up late.

4. Thunder snow is cool!
The weird combination of all the elments of the thunderstorm with the snow thrown in there for good measure!

16. It happens when the barometric pressure is very low
We see it in some of the heavy lake effect snow squalls that we get off of Lake Erie here in Western NY. Freaky to see lightening and hear thunder when temps are well below freezing.

This storm is pretty intense. I'll bet at the center of the low the pressure is very low.

11. Hi Shine!
Thanks for the good wishes!

We're all set here...I even went to the store and bought Little MB the Valentine's cupcakes she was coveting at the bakery this past week. She doesn't know it yet, but I am going to let her have one for breakfast...:bounce: :bounce:

I've done absolutely nothing to prepare for VD on my end. I'm a bad mommy. :D

I'll have to hustle while the kids are in school tomorrow.

10. mesoscale—Pertaining to atmospheric phenomena
mesoscale—Pertaining to atmospheric phenomena having horizontal scales ranging from a few to several hundred kilometers, including thunderstorms, squall lines, fronts, precipitation bands in tropical and extratropical cyclones, and topographically generated weather systems such as mountain waves and sea and land breezes.

In other word...crappy weather,

13. I've had to wear a balaclava and a down coat just to walk outside
Often, I've been able to get away with wearing shorts and a T-shirt for a short time in 35 F weather. No more! The high winds we've been getting in north Texas have driven temperatures down, and as I'm recovering from a nasty bout with bronchitis, I'm not keen on getting sick again this year.
