In the commercial they asked him something about if more than one wife wanted his "services" for the evening what would happen and he said that someone would be disappointed.

That comment alone would be enough for me to beat his skull in w/ a cast iron skillet while he slept. Guess I'm not cut out for polygamy.

I missed that part. The part that got me was the young people were pretty much denyimg they had sexual urges and that their mate(s) would be picked by divine revelation through some male elder.

I would not be either because they are exchanging the life of the mind for a life of unquestioning security.

10. I've always said that too. The other (and unspoken factor) in

that remarkable documentary is that you would have all kinds of extra in-laws and it takes a long time to deal with the ones from just one marriage!! And those a re big families too. How about 7 sisters-in-law?? And several MILs?

18. Well, he did have nine kids though so something must have

been working. What got me was the fact he'd always hide behind some scripture or sectarian dogma to justify his lifestyle and the racism inherent in some of the beliefs. (Black people are cursed because they are the children of Cain, etc.). So in that way, yes, he was indeed inadequate.

I've watched a couple of documentaries on polygamy now and I've never believed that the women in those unions were in them entirely voluntarily. But in fairness, I didn't watch this one.
