17. Shocked ! I say shocked.
Truly surprised, Peg.

Even when I had shoulder length hair, smoked dope, wore elephant bell bottoms, and love beads...I always celebrated V-Day with an exchange of gifts and a "dinner out". Never even then, bought the "commercialization-marketing excuse"

8. We don't
Not our thing; we both really don't care for Valentine's Day. We'll probably go out to eat, but that's it. When we first met she warned me not to get caught up w/ that kind of stuff and just focus on the love every day instead, and it's another of the million reasons I love her..

11. We don't.
Never have for the last 6 years. This year, since we're doing the LDR thing for a couple more months, he was gong to come and visit me and suprise me but couldn't get the time off. I said I'd prefer he came in the weekend as we'd have a better time and he'd be here for longer.
He sent me an Anti-valentines card and I sent him a photo of a part of me (he he) and that's probably the most extravagent valentines day we've ever had!!!

12. ME, ME
I hate any kind of gift nonsense - if I feel like giving a gift I do it any time, I don't feel f***ing required to do it on certain days and I really dislike receiving gifts anyways

We never really have. We have a nice dinner with the children and give them candy on their plates and just kind of enjoy the life that love built... Corny, I know. I love it.

Sometimes we joke. If MrG has to buy a tool of some sort he'll had it to me and say "Happy Valentine's Day". :D

so we don't go to great lengths. Every day is like Valentine's Day!
This year I've made a "kindergarten card" for fun.....remember the messy tissue paper glued to cardboard and you added glitter?
I used glow in the dark glitter, teehee.

:loveya:

Edited to say that I feel that I posted this too hastily .... I see nothing wrong with going all gooey over this day either-I'm loving reading the "mushy" stories here. So, commercial or not, having a day devoted to appreciating love reminds us that every day CAN be like Valentine's Day!
Have a great one-and keep the vibe going!!
:hi: :loveya: :woohoo:

21. hmmm
I consider myself forgotten if I do not receive some symbol of love. I want to feel like I am in a relationship and to me without something from the heart, it is like having lasagna on Thanksgiving.

Disclaimer: I also bought into the marketing of the Epilady and silk hoodies.

22. Hubby and I got away from giving each other Valentine's Day gifts a few years ago.
We usually get a little chocolate, and sometimes he'll get me roses, but it's usually very low-key. We do the same thing on our anniversary.

27. HA. Actually, it was a Honda Accord Coupe, 1989
Prior to that, I had been driving a Pontiac sunbird and on my lowly teacher's salary, couldn't afford a new car.

I loved that Honda. It was such a great car. I kinda wish I had kept it for TM to drive.

It was my first car with A/C. We had to get rid of it when #3 came along because we couldn't fit three car seats across the back. :sigh:

We tend to ignore all culturally mandated spending sprees.

But we have learned to treat every day as if was special.

35. I am making him cook my favorite dinner
We're broke this year, so I asked for daffodils and my favorite dinner (well, my favorite that he doesn't like -- I have other favorites that we have pretty often because he likes them).

Gifts depend on our finances. If he's making money, I'm not adverse to a little treat. If he's not working, no pressure.

36. Never have and never will
Even when I was married, Valentine's Day was never celebrated. It's a crass, consumerist, commercialized holiday that has nothing to do with St. Valentine -- the Catholic church can't even determine who he was.

http://www.americancatholic.org/Features/ValentinesDay/

A quick quiz: St. Valentine was:

a) a priest in the Roman Empire who helped persecuted Christians during the reign of Claudius II, was thrown in jail and later beheaded on Feb. 14.

b) a Catholic bishop of Terni who was beheaded, also during the reign of Claudius II.

c) someone who secretly married couples when marriage was forbidden, or suffered in Africa, or wrote letters to his jailer's daughter, and was probably beheaded.

d) all, some, or possibly none of the above.
