Snow day!
Work was called off tonight due to the twelve inches of snow that we are buried under. I sure am glad. I'm a trucker and I have to make eight deliveries a night of auto parts that are loaded in carts that I have to drag through the snow. The beginning of the storm was last night and it took me ten hours to do a seven hour run. It would probably take me twelve tonight if I could even manage to get out on the road to get to work. I don't think I'd make it in my little two wheel drive Chevy S-10.

So here I am hanging out with you guys. HHopefully there will be enough of us here tonight to make things entertaining.

3. You don't have snow days in Switzerland?
Wait a second, you work from home, right? Let me tell you, I'd happily trade in all of my snow days if I could do that!

5. No, when it snows, they clear the roads immediately and it's off to work
for most people. My studio is attached to our home, so I usually don't have to deal with going out in the cold to get to work. :bounce:

But I did want to check in and say hello, and find out how you're doing...

Yeah, the NE is just buried under snow and ice.....

Please take care and stay safe!

And it's very good to see you tonight........

4. Good to see you, too, Peggy
I'm staying perfectly safe tonight. The only threat of injury comes from spraining a finger on my keyboard or taking a sip of hot chocalte when it's too hot.

6. Hey droopy
enjoy the night at home.

It is good to hear that your comapny is sane enough not to send you on the road in such conditions.

7. That is a good deal isn't it?
I think they learned the hard way, though. One of the day shift guys had a major accident yesterday morning at the intersection of two major interstates that really made of mess of things. After that happened they told everybody, including the day guys, to call it quits.

9. The day guy is okay
Messed up the truck pretty bad, though.

I'm just going to grab me a shower here in a little bit and drink hot chiocolate and hang out here and at another message board I like to visit. I got everything I need here at the house, so I'm not going out in the snow unless it's an emergency.

11. Hell no!
I'm getting too old and frail for that stuff, although I might be obligated to help my little 4 year old neice if she comes over today. She's so cute that there is no way I could tell her no :).

15. One is never too old to build a snowman
at least a small one :) Hey, I am about as old as you and I enjoy building a snowman (the tiny version) if I have the snow for it, that is ...

Or a snowball fight!!!

Make sure to show your niece how to make a snow angel :D

17. A snow angel is definitely in order
And she's got this cute, little pink snow suit that will be perfect for making snow angels. Problem is that I don't have a cute, little snow suit :(.

Do you all get much snow there in Germany aside from in the mountains?

18. Not this winter
we barely had snow here. It is a crazy winter here, you can't even call it winter. It is way to warm. There were two weeks during this winter that were cold enough to get snow but then the temps go up again and the snow melts. It sucks. This weekend the temps are supposed to be in the 50s again.

No pink snow suit for you??? :P

20. When I was a child
I spent the first four years of my life there in Germany in Landstuhl. I don't have a lot of memories from that time, but I do remember a few winter days from then. I have a vivid memory of seeing an ambulance for the first time. One of the neighbor ladies from our apartment building slipped on some icy steps and broke her leg. I was asking my mom about that as we looked out the window at the paramedics taking care of the lady. I remember not understanding how someone could break their leg.

22. Maybe that global warming thing is the real deal
You wouldn't know it from the winter we've had so far. It hasn't gotten above 30 degrees here it what seems like a month and we've had the most so days that I can ever remember having. It seems like every other day I'm driving through snow.

23. I mean now that * admitted it as well
I guess we are allowed to believe it :sarcasm:

Last year we had a winter as well when there was a lot of snow, in some areas really bad. But in the overview the snow got definitely less.

12. snow day here too
:woohoo:

We had off today and we're off tomorrow. (I'm especially glad we have off tomorrow, since I don't teach or take classes on Tuesday, so even though today was a snow day it was more or less a normal day for me. But tomorrow I can enjoy some unexpected free time! :woohoo:)

Enjoy your free night, Droopy :hi:

I'm debating between hot chocolate, cappuchino, and spiced rum and ginger ale. I'm leaning toward the hot chocolate.

The new job is going good. I like it and the pay is good. Almost as much as I was making driving over the road and I'm home very day now. If I could change anything I'd make it second shift, but I'm not bitching.

28. just checked our local weather station (7:15am et)
another 4-8" once it changes back over to snow

measured it in our backyard - we have about 8" now, still pretty much sleeting, but a few flakes are starting to mix in - should be all snow in another hour or snow.

around 23-degrees on our thermometer.

I'm going to wait until it turns back over to all snow before going out to do the first shoveling, with any luck, the neighbor down the road will have his plow out and we may be able to get him to do a pass or two on our driveway...

It's our first BIG storm of the season, two weeks ago we had maybe 3" of powdery snow, but as far as snowfall this season it's been negligable - so I'm not complaining especially when I see the 10' in the Oswego NY areas...

26. Level 3 Snow Emergency north of Columbus
Level 3: Emergency

All roadways are closed to non-emergency personnel. No one should be out during these conditions unless it is absolutely necessary to travel. All employees should contact their employers to see if they should report to work. Those traveling on the roadways may be subject to arrest under 2917.13 of the Ohio Revised Code. This offense is a misdemeanor of the fourth degree

Guess I'm not going anywhere...

27. We're just south of Dayton and we have a level 2 emergency right now
I don't think they will arrest you under a level 2, but they are telling us to not be on the road munless it is absolutely necessary. My home terminal is 35 miles to the north of us and I bet there is a good possibility that they are under a level 3. It will be interesting to see if they will cancel work again tonight.
