Now, I shall make all DU girlfriends jealous and make all DU boyfriends look bad.
My plans tonight to celebrate Valentines Day with my girlfriend:

* Big room at the Park Plaza hotel for the night with a view of the city and the Boston Common.

* Reservations at astonishingly nice restaurant downtown.

Yep. I rule.

(Note: Today is also our anniversary, so these big plans are for both events. Also, the hotel room was surprisingly cheap. Dinner will wind up being more expensive, oddly enough)

(Note: I still rule)

Ahem. Regardless, if she does't go for roses, you're supposed to be able to read her mind and know what kind of flowers she DOES like, and go get 'em! Sigh. Youngsters.

Oh, and I apologize in advance to anyone offended by my totally sexist generalization-type comments. I still open doors for ladies.

67. I dunno about that.
We're building a house and I would be VERY unhappy if harleydad blew money on red roses and white diamonds. To me, nothing is more romantic than spending an evening alone with him, a nice dinner (roasted cornish game hens ... everything in one disposable pan so there's no mess, and prepared together -- VERY romantic), a bottle of wine, and a good movie. When we were in college over 30 years ago, we just wanted to be alone in our own living room. I remembered that last night.
:loveya:

Take it from an old married woman -- harleydad doesn't need expensive props.

My boyfriend proposed to me on Valentine's Day. Dinner with another couple to throw me off, then home, where he had stashed the ring in the refrigerator for me to find because I inevitably hit the fridge as soon as we get home to get a beverage.

That was 13 years ago today.

Have fun tonight, don't do anything I wouldn't do. ;-)

I got a call from my sweetie Friday night, as I was rushing to see my son's band play in Nash Vegas, and my sweetie said, "I'm hopping on a plane. Be in Nashville in a few hours. Surprise."

So I got a whole weekend with my baby AND got back a bunch of cool pictures I took of him when we were in Marina Del Ray to pin up and lust after.

Love is so nice. :P

What a wonderful time in a relationship.... expensive dinners, nice hotels.

After nearly 12 years of marriage and 2 kids, our big splurge today is wild-caught salmon for dinner and a decadent chocolate dessert. Life changes, but as long as the love is there, Valentine's Day is still great.

All I have to do is laze around and eat dark chocholate and be worshiped. He still hasn't lost it after 25 years!

36. it does sound nice
but I have to admit I'm not jealous either. I don't get spending a whole lot of money on food; it all looks the same when it comes out no matter how much you pay for it.

I think my ideal valentines day thing would be, really, and this is terrible, but if I was in a place where I could justify it, someone getting me a baby animal of some sort. That is the most cuddly thing I can imagine, like a puppy or kitten. And spending the rest of the day playing with it. Of course that would be someone who knew me well enough to know that would make me happier than anything else. It would have to be from a rescue or something, and we would also have to adopt a really old, not very adoptable pet at the same time too.

But I do hope Will Pitt and everyone else has a great Valentines Day. :hi:

57. You are leaving the house? I am SO f***ing jealous!
I have been snowed in for two days and it took four guys with snow blades and shovels to dig my car out enough to DRAG it out of the driveway.

I got snow drifts so tall you can't even see my fence, and we had to clear a drift out to get our sat TV to work again. The last I heard, there was a snow drift over 8 feet tall on the outskirts of town blocking the main road that the snow plows were having problems breaking thru.

We had fajitas for dinner and Kevsand is over on the futon with Material Girl watching cartoons in between his naps...

Oh yeah, we ARE living large here in Central Illinois! I'm hoping to go back to work tomorrow.

70. I would have been satisfied w/ a phone call
*sigh*

To be fair, the person who I wanted to call isn't really a boyfriend, yet. He's expressed some interest, and I've been trying to be encouraging, but we're both a little gun shy. Add to that the fact that he probably got stuck at work during the snow storm.... it's kind of hard to fault him for not calling.

73. My wife & I got nothing for each other yesterday - however -
I'm planning a very nice anniversary gift for later this year. Or, maybe birthday

Either this:

Or maybe this (which would certainly make us a family of liberal elitists)

74. I got Daffodils and "Mile High Enchilada Pie"
made in the crock pot.

S.O. is broke this year, so we went the budget route. Normally we go out a day before or after VDay to avoid the VDay menus and markup at the good restaurants.

I still prefer daffodils vs. roses though.

Hope the Park Plaza was great (not surprised you got a good price, though -- most business people avoid traveling on Valentine's day, so they probably had a lot of rooms in stock)

77. My husband didn't get me anything yesterday, but we just built a new house

We move in 10 days! :bounce:

I didn't care about not getting anything for Valentine's Day. I've never had my own house, so I'm kind of excited! :bounce: Besides, we are snowed in.

Hope you had a great time! :hi:
