3. I saw the title post and thought I'd have to come to the defense of my South in here
Nice to find it's not a bashing in here.

I could go for a MoonPie right now. It was my favorite throw from Mardi Gras parades in the past.

29. Cheerwine info...

...Cheerwine is available in most of the southeastern United States, from the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia south to Georgia. It is available in California at Beverages & More and in Cincinnati at Jungle Jim's. Other spots to find Cheerwine are the many "specialty soda" stores throughout the country, such as The Fondren Beverage Emporium in Jackson, Mississippi. However, as of late 2002, the beverage is now also distributed in Norway through Oslo-based American Marketing. There are plans to expand distribution to the rest of Scandinavia in coming months. In April of 2005, other regions of the United States began to bottle Cheerwine; mainly through Pepsi distributors. The first area outside the traditional market area was Quincy, Illinois. Other areas added recently include Burlington, Iowa; Duluth, Minnesota; Chattanooga, Tennessee (in certain stores); Tulsa, Oklahoma; Topeka, Kansas; and Rolla, Missouri.... http://www.answers.com/topic/cheerwine

53. Cheerwine lives!
We still have Cheerwine here in NC! There's even Diet Cheerwine so we can enjoy the cherry-wine goodness and still keep our girlish figures.

I grew up in KY, where Ale8 1 was the unique drink. It was super-charged ginger-ale and super sweet.

17. Thanks for asking about Miz t. Interesting development.
Edited on Thu Feb-15-07 08:18 PM by trof
The doc, who we like, and really trust said "viral infection".

Later I asked Miz t. "Did they do a throat swab?, culture?, anything to confirm this 'diagnosis'?"

Nope. Just "Oh you've got the viral thing that's going around. EVERYBODY has it."

So, IMHO, it's an 'opinion'.
A guess.

Miz t. says "I don't really feel bad. Just this nasal congestion. I think it's just a plain cold. Whatever THAT is."

She was told she'd be 'highly contagious' for a week or more.
So far (knock wood) no one else has come down with it.

24. When I was 15 my family spent something like two months in Taipei
Edited on Thu Feb-15-07 10:03 PM by Kali
We stayed in this funky old hotel - The Liberty House - it would have made a great set for some kind of series or movie and the staff was perfect too. We ate most meals in the dining room and our usual waiter was this old guy who never smiled (so of course we named him Smiley - though not to his face) and us kids would always have some version of fried rice and - yes here is the tie in - a(n?) RC cola.

The poor guy had to repeat the order three times every meal for the entire time. <in stereotypical Asian accent> "Ah one AAHH CEE Cola and ah one FLIED LICE"

That is the place I will always associate with RC cola. And Smiley.

Edit - age!

30. Depends on where in the South. Where I'm from, Barq's Olde Tyme Root Beer
has a more nostalgic feel to it, not to mention a lot more flavor.

Then there's another southern soft drink/food combo... Coca-Cola with salted peanuts. I hear Coca Cola has caught on in the rest of the country.

Both of my grandfathers were fans. One in New York and the other in Wisconsin. I used to drink it in the 1990s simply because it was cheaper than Coke at the local grocer.

45. Oh my gawd...
this brings back a really funny memory. A couple years ago, hubby and I took off on our Harley to do the "Dragon" in Deals Gap, NC. I had made reservations in a "quaint" lodge at the end of the dragon. Well, after traveling over 8 hours and doing the "dragon" for the 1st time in the rain and in the dark we were at the end and the hubby asked me where our lodge was. I had forgotten to bring the phone # and it was raining and he was tired and crabby. We stopped at a gas station and asked where the Tapoka Lodge was and the lady said you need to go back up the "dragon" about 4 miles, you passed it. Well, I asked her if I could use her phone to call(no cell phone reception) and make sure they were holding our cabin. A little old lady answered the phone and said if you can get here in 15 minutes fine, but after that I'm going to bed. We high tailed it up the "dragon" again and arrived. The little old lady met us at the counter, checked us in and then told us that we'd missed our dinner that was included in our reservation (we hadn't eaten all day). I explained that we were tired and hungry and was there any way she could make us a sandwich or something...she replied, "go down to the next door and I'll have the girls fix you up something." We did as instructed and there on the counter sat 2 moon pies and 2 RC colas!!! I hate moon pies!! We couldn't believe it. We walked up to our cabin and talk about remote...no phone, no TV, nothing but a bathroom and a bed! haha It was still a fun trip that we fondly remember to this day.
BTW...for all you bikers, if you haven't done the "dragon", you've missed out!!!

50. Cracker Barrel sells boxes of Moon Pies behind the counter.
My 11-year-old son was introduced to Moon Pies & RC by my dad (born & raised in Kentucky) a couple of years ago. It was quite a bonding moment. I was even able to find t-shirts for both of them that say "RC Cola & A Moon Pie--It's a Southern Thing". They look pretty cute wearing their shirts & eating their Moon Pies. Great photo op.
