What should I do with my salmonella-infected peanut butter?
Turns out I've got one of the recalled jars in my pantry.

Seems like a waste of good bacteria to just throw it away. :D

10. return it to the store for a refund
Edited on Thu Feb-15-07 09:13 PM by pitohui
i have never had a moment's trouble getting cash back for a recalled product even if i have lost the receipt

the coolest time was the recalled OTC diet product i bought for hub, it was a "freebate" item where they mailed back a check for the amount of the item to try it, meanwhile hubby said, "no way i'm taking drugs to lose weight," then it was recalled, i had no receipt because hello i sent it in for the rebate, the drugstore manager said not a problem and gave me a full cash refund anyway for the trouble

so hell i actually turned a profit on it!

14. salmonella outbreak in PeterPan and Great Value peanut butter...
The Food and Drug Administration warned consumers not to eat certain jars of Peter Pan or Great Value peanut butter because of the risk of contamination.

The affected jars have a product code on the lid that begins with the number "2111." The affected jars are made by ConAgra in a single facility in Sylvester, Georgia, the FDA said.

Great Value peanut butter made by other manufacturers is not affected, the agency said.

17. The honest answer is to throw out the jar, but save the cap &...
...send it to the manufacturer for a refund (read the jar for manufacturer's info).

I saw this on MSNBC

thorough cooking is said to kill the bacteria. If it works with eggs, then why not with PB?

22. Ya know, that's not a bad idea
Market it right and it just might work. I am looking at a jar of Peter Pan right here in front of me with the dreaded 2111....... serial. I notice ConAgra hasn't offered me my money back so why not?
