I quit my job today.
Ever have one of those days when you just can't face another minute of your job, let alone another week or day? That's how I woke up today. I quit by email, no notice. Shame on me.

1. I did that once...don't regret it, but felt kinda bad, cuz it was with the DNC
Just couldn't stand it there, it showed me why Terry McAuliffe had no business being in charge...Place was in shambles, and I was brought in to do certain things, and basically they tied my hands to the point where I couldn't do anything, but was getting yelled at for nothing getting done. So I just walked out one day.

3. I sent them an email once...
...voicing my upset over something they'd just done. I got back an email thanking me for my support and asking for a donation.

I quit a job on impulse years ago. Decided to do so between the time I parked my car and got to the building. It turned out to be an excellent move. I find that my impulsive acts usually pay off in the long run, even if they look nutty in the short term.

2. Congratulations!
A sincere celebratory :toast: from someone newly free from working for "da man" (two weeks and two days today!)--I was in the same boat, but I suffered through two weeks' notice and an insincere pizza-and-wings parting lunch. :puke: I wish I had done it your way!

4. If they'd given me pizza and wings...
...I would have hired a taster to make sure it wasn't poisoned.

Are you looking for new work?

I don't think I will. I'm tired.

5. ROFL!
My place was toxic enough--I built up an immunity by showing up every day.

Did I say :puke:? Because I can't say it enough! :puke: :puke: :puke:

I decided to freelance and raise toddler MG Jr.--you know, play with him while he still considers his mama his best friend.

I am still sleeping off the effects of my last place of employment--I say take it easy for now and see what you want to do in a while, once you've recovered.

A great DUer, bliss_eternal, recommended the book Finding Your Own North Star. I'm not a fan of self-help books, but this one was really good. You might want to check it out!

So now guess where I'm off to, this minute? Back to the hellhole for a couple of hours! One of my coworkers reached the end of her tether as well and is retiring a bit early--I'm going to her farewell reception. Yep, this place sure has a great retention rate.

Maybe I'll amuse myself by making faces at my former VP and editor...

7. I think I'll retire and live off the dough Anna Nicole left me.
I loved my boss. Loved the work. But just can't handle it. Too many hours, too much work, given the demands placed on me by an elderly mother who's not doing well. I'd like to crawl into a cave and sleep for a few years.

6. congrats on the freedom
I have a weird "quitting" story.
I once left the building in the middle of the day to go feed the parking meter on the street. We all had to do this once or twice a day. Instead of paying the meter, I just got in the car and drive away. Two weeks later, they sent me my last check. I never said a word to them and they never wondered what the hell happened to me.

8. That's funny.
I called in dead once, said I was my sister and I had died during the night.

9. I went to the washroom once....
Looked in the mirror. Said to myself, "I can't do this anymore." Walked into the bosses office, dropped my keys on his desk, and left.

10. I walked out on my job 8 years ago. ...
Edited on Fri Feb-16-07 02:25 PM by youthere
there was a whole list of things that had been building up (I won't bore you with them all) and I just couldn't take it anymore. 4:30 came,I got a box, cleared off my desk, changed my voice mail to "I don't work here anymore", went to my manager's office and threw my keys and entry badge on her desk and told her not to call me. She started to say something and I told her she wasn't my boss anymore so she could just shut the hell up. I walked out while she was still collecting her dropped jaw.
Then I went home and bawled like hell. I felt wonderful and horrified all at the same time but I'll tell you that it was one of the best decisions I ever made.

13. Funny thing about that...
I actually called into my voice mail the next day (they hadn't changed the access code yet) and there were over a hundred "hangup" messages. Apparently everyone in my office called my voice mail to find out if I had really quit.

12. Been there, done that.
It's frightening, yet liberating at the same time. You took a step onto a brand new path. May the new path lead you to a better place.

14. I am so freaking jealous of you.
I am having wild fantasies about doing that the day I'm supposed to have my next review. Just walking in and saying, "Oh by the way..."

17. I had a review at the end of Jan., but never got the report...
I don't even know how much my raise was. They are routinely late telling people what their raises are, but when they put them through, they're retroactive.

19. They always do that to us too. Unfortunately the raises suck so bad that even the
retroactive check doesn't amount to much of a difference. I doubt they're even keeping up with inflation.

15. I'm jealous also. I would love to be able to quit my job.
There is a huge list of things I'm dealing with at my job. I want to transfer to another department, but my supervisor's signature is required on my transfer form. How stupid is that?
