Years ago I was reading the diary of one of the earliest white settlers here in western Washington State. His name was Thomas Heath, he had quite a way with words.... folks wrote much differently back then. One of the things he said in that diary has stuck with me. He had gotten in a fight with some of his indian workers and in the scuffle managed to have a front tooth knocked out. He stated in his diary that "The incident did not improve upon my smile... much"

Hence my post. You are quite right, those songs are wretched...

That said, I am not an AC-DC fan and anyone else singing that song would get from me a similar response. For those who wish to rock: I :patriot:

Kelly Pickler.
She was a young lady contestant from North Carolina. She was noteworthy for her absolute naivety. Her singing was not particularly great but it was her constant, "I just fell off the turnip truck" attitude of innocence which was what endeared her to America...(Those of us who watched regularly). She was constantly being picked on by Simon, (the shows resident bad apple judge), for this. (He called her a "minx" once and she could not understand why he would compare her to a mink...the look on her face made it obvious that she was trying desperately to figure out what a "mink's" voice sounded like). Toward the end of the season she was struggling to keep up with the remaining singers who were considerably more talented then she was. She had been previously urged by the judges to choose a song less country, (her strength), and harder edged so she chose Bohemian Rhapsody. I know I was not the only one in America who was practically in tears over that choice...it was one of those beyond precious moments. Unlike the two train-wrecks posted here in your thread Kelly actually did a pretty fair job with that song. If she had chosen your AC-DC song instead I am sure I would have been equally shocked and happy for her which is why I added that statement in my posting. I know American Idol is not for everyone but there are some things which happen on that show that make a person feel pretty good about things...in the end that's what music is all about anyway, regardless of where it comes from.

btw because of your post I was checkin stuff out over on that you-tube site, I do not normally go there but I did find this gem: It is Zombie, by the Cranberries. Regardless of what you think of her, or the song, listen this gal sing and imagine yourself as the director of an anti-bush, anti Iraq war music video and put together your own mental images. For me that was another magic moment.
