Idea: We need a "Straights-for-Gays" symbol (triangle?)
Today as I was driving around I was thinking how cool it would be if there were a universal symbol expressing the idea that "I'm a straight person standing up for the rights of everybody, including gay people." Maybe a differently colored triangle?? ... I think it would be valuable to show other straight people that millions of other straight people, and not just gay people, want equal rights for ALL.

What do you guys think? Does something like that already exist? (I know there are bumperstickers that say things like "Straight but not Narrow," but there is something powerful about a simple symbol that is beyond words.)

1. The closest I've seen
is either a triangle with the words "Straight but not Narrow" in it, or interlocking male and female symbols in all three configurations. (m+m, m+f, f+f)

2. I've always used the term "straight but not narrow" but I've always been a bit
uncomfortable with it because I am a bit... er... shall we say "wide".

5. LOL! Maybe I should just embrace it and paste a bumper sticker on my
big wide ass that says "Straight but not narrow!" LOL!

Actually, I've recently lost 55 lbs so I guess it won't be an issue for too much longer.

4. I Just Have The Pink Triangle Here
but I am interested in something that would be universally understood as standing in solidarity with GBLT folks as a straight person who thinks love is not something that is anyone's business but the ones who love each other.

You got it Southpaw, baby!

Tell those Fundies and Freepers to stay the hell
out of other people's bedrooms!

Ever notice how preoccupied they are with
other people's sex lives?

12. Yah
I've assumed lately anyone'd used the triangle.
I have to stick with the animals no matter what I am though.

7. I don't know. I think it's NICE
Very pleasing to my eye. Wouldn't it be cool if this turned out to be a broadly understood cultural symbol?

Thanks. It gets my vote....

8. Oh bah. I don't care if anyone thinks I'm gay.
Well actually I may be more effective at getting the message across if they do think I'm gay.

And hell, I'll flirt with anyone.

13. I was thinking the same thing
Why does it carry more weight knowing a straight person supports gay rights? I don't care if someone thinks I'm gay. All I need them to know is I support gay rights.

14. That's not what I was getting at at all -- I also don't give a rat's ass
if people think I'm gay. However, I just thought it would make people who are not fundies but not exactly liberal (the sort of detached "middle-of-the-road" American) think about it more and make them think that it is not out of the ordinary that a straight person should support gay rights and also stand up for them. It sort of broadens the issue.

25. seems kinda conflicting to me
'i support gay rights but don't worry, i'm NOT gay!' ?? is one way of interpreting such a thing.

26. I guess I've explained why I thought about this.
Again, I don't give a flip if people think I'm gay. However, I think letting other straights know that many straights are standing up for gay rights will have a broader impact. I don't know how else to put it. It's another post in the foundation, or something. It might make some straights think about the issue more than they would if they perceived it as "only" a gay issue.
