I just had a close encounter with a deer
It was very cool!

I live away from the city with several parks and some greenspace within a few blocks and this morning a small deer came by to say hello.

It hopped the fence between the neighbors house and mine and went to check out the grove of trees (which btw were massacred by the ice storm last week) :( and since he/she was within 10 yards of me I spoke quietly to it so as not to startle it. It stood very still for a few seconds and then came up to the porch, it stood and looked at me for a moment and then went around the side of the house and away looking for breakfast in the snow.

It was a beautiful animal.

:-)

2.  then it went into your backyard and ate all your plantings from last summer
they are a pain in the ass, like squirrels who weigh 800 pounds

3. I think it would have a terrible time eating anything
my yard is buried under 8 inches of snow and ice. I like squirrels too, though 800 lbs would scare me in a bad way!

Actually the nursery and I decided to plant things last year that deer aren't fond of , I don't think there is anything to munch on.

4.  embarassing moment of deer repellent
I have this holly bush that has grown up so perfectly around my post light. I can't take any credit for it but some former owner of my house planted and nutured it for several decades. Its beautiful and the deer love to eat it bare, we have tried everything, even been trying going outide and peeing on it myself and the suggestion of my local nursery guy. I must admit I feel pretty foolish peeing into a coffee can and sprinkling it on the bush, but it seems to be working.

5. I don't know I might send my husband out and skip the coffee can
except that it's probably against the law to pee in the yard. I'd dread that exposure charge. :yoiks:

Good Idea though, thanks for the info!

7. Why can't people legally shoot deer who eat their flowers?
On the provision they eat the deer?

8. Because within the city limits in most places
you aren't allowed to hunt. In my case I'm a vegetarian and wouldn't/couldn't make myself eat bambi anyway! Venison has never touched these lips!:7 :bounce:

9. here in San Antonio, we are infested with them. I live near the
airport, and there is a herd of about 75 deer behind my house. Actually become a nuisance to some folks.

10. I know that can happen
I used to live in Colorado, up in the mountains above Denver, and they were causing trouble there too.

Here there are only about 10 that run through the neighborhood. This was a young one, the look in its eyes was so sweet, I was enthralled.:-)
