Look the beginning was OK and Alan Arkin was vulgar but funny. Who doesn't think that heroin snorting old men aren't hilarious? That guy from the office was OK too. Proust...I'm the #1 scholar in America...heh. Actually the first 3/4 of the movie was pretty decent.

BUT...

The LMS dance routine was gawd awful...Seriously it was disgusting and not even remotely funny. Oh the pedophile (Or what appeared to be my "bad" if he was an editorial writer for "Little Cute Girls In Pageants") that cheered at the end was hoot, not!

And then it just ended. Which at that point was probably for the best.

1. I liked it
But I don't think its worthy of an Oscar nomination and neither is that little dance the girl did. I think its the result of a really bad year for movies.

2. I did like the 1st three quarters. It had some decent exchanges.
But that dance was just too much.

3. I couldn't breathe I was laughing so hard...
But it made me sad. Why would they let that little girl go do that, knowing that she was going to make an idiot of herself? It was a good movie, I thought, in spite of that. I liked the dynamic of the family. It seemed real. And I wanted to beat the shit out of Greg Kinnear.

5. ..but they *didn't* know what she was going to do.
She and Grampa were rehearsing in secret, remember?

Her compared to the other girls...it was just embarrassing. I mean for God's sake, why would ANYONE let their kid compete in beauty pageants like that?!

4. well

But the ending (although somewhat disturbing if you really think about it) was just wonderfully absurd. It fit with everything else. The wonderful dysfunction of the movie is what was so inspiring, in a strange way.

Oh well. Suum quique.

7. I thought it was pretty..
formulaic. Not a bad movie, just mostly forgettable fluff. I felt as if they were trying to hard to create a 'memorable movie moment' with the dance scene, especially when they all got up and started dancing with her. It took me right out of the movie.

8. The dance scene was where the movie really lost me
It was ok and had its moments before that, but overall I was a little disappointed in the movie.

I was actually expecting it to be a darker, more biting satire than it was.
