2. Yup, it is.
he didn't have to compete with a band, either. The whole thing was billed as a "one man band" kinda deal. It was just him, his guitar and a piano accompanist. Very, very nice, indeed. :) He's headin' down to LA to do a few nights down there. He might even be performing for the Oscars next Sunday, he told us. Cool, huh?

:hi:

7. Yes, he was soooo awesome.
what a voice, what a songsmith. The man is amazing. Plus, he's endearingly funny, too. I was surprised by how funny he was. He also did some really great intros to some of the songs, telling the backround of what was going on in his life when he wrote it.

One thing I learned was that "Sweet Baby James" was written in honor of his first nephew, his brother's kid, who was named after James, himself. Cool! I'd never known that.

:hi: Definitely do yourself a favor and try to see him live if you ever get the chance. I'm sure Matcom would come through for you. :D

19. I'm so jealous!
I love it when the artists tell you why the wrote the song. I always thought 'Sweet baby James' was about his son! Wow, I never knew that! and that is one of my favorite songs! I will definitely be watching for him to come back to his roots...Massachusetts!

9. Yeah, it was great.
much better experience than the last time I saw him, back in the early 90's, It was at a huge stadium and we were waaaay back on the grassy area. He was just this tiny little speck, on the stage.

There was this really obnoxious drunk guy right behind us, who kept screaming at the top of his voice, "JT!!! JT!!!" :eyes:

This venue on Saturday was much more intimate and it was fantastic. :hi:

10. Sounds like a once-in-a-lifetime show! Did he make any political comments?
he did when I saw him during the Vote for Change concert in D.C. in 2004. It's nice to know he is on our side and not afraid to speak out.

29. Ya know, I don't know if I have, come to think of it.
I have all his other stuff, though.
I even got his latest Christmas CD. Pretty good, actually. :D

I just loooooove his voice.

He might perform for the Oscars on Sunday night, he told us at the concert. Apparently, the song "Our Town", from the animated feature by Pixar, "Cars", has been nominated for best original song. It was written by Randy Newman and James performed it for the movie.

Cool, huh?

30. tried to find something on youtube--no luck. here are some lyrics
James Taylor - Knocking ’round The Zoo Lyrics

Just knocking around the zoo on a thursday afternoon
There’s bars on all the windows and they’re counting up the spoons
And if I’m feeling edgy there’s a chick who’s paid to be my slave
But she’ll hit me with a needle if she thinks I’m trying to misbehave

Now the keeper’s trying to cool me says I’m bound to be alright
But I know that he can’t fool me ’cause I’m putting him uptight
And I can feel him getting edgy every time I make a sudden move
And I can hear them celebrating every time I up and leave the room

Now my friends all came to see me they point at me and stare
Said he’s just like the rest of us so what’s he doing in there
They hide in their movie theaters drinking juice-keeping tight
’cause they’re certain about one thing that zoo’s no place to spend the
Night

Just knocking around the zoo on a thursday afternoon
There’s bars on all the windows and they’re counting up the spoons
And if I’m feeling edgy there’s a chick who’s paid to be my slave
But she’ll hit me with a needle if she thinks I’m trying to misbehave

also on the album:
night owl
brighten your night with my day
rainy day man
something's wrong
kootch's song

the album is blue with a water color of james:loveya:

I've seen him in concert dozens of times.

Search youtube for an interview with James and all his siblings. (Before Alex died.) It's so interesting to see them all interact.

So glad you had a good time!

37. The song "Be On Your Way"
he writes about Alice. It's really about Alex and his death. I think it's on the cd released just prior to October Road. Sad, sad song. :(

Lelapin always says she just wants to hug him.

He doesn't read music. 60 Minutes did a terrific interview with him and his wife Kim.

I'll have to go back and listen to "Be On Your Way", cuz it's not comin' to me right now.

39. Found it. It's from Hourglass.
"Enough to Be On Your Way"

So the sun shines on his funeral just the same as on a birth,
the way it shines on everything that happens here on Earth.
It rolls across the western sky and back into the sea
and spends the day's last rays upon this fucked-up family, so long old pal.

The last time I saw Alice, she was leaving Santa Fe
with a bunch of round-eyed Buddhists in a killer Chevrolet.
Said they turned her out of Texas, yeah, she burned them down back home,
now she's wild with expectation on the edge of the unknown.

Singing oh, it's enough to be on your way,
it's enough just to cover ground, it's enough to be moving on.
Home, build it behind your eyes, carry it in your heart, safe among your own.

They brought her back on a Friday night, same day I was born.
We sent her up the smokestack, yes, and back into the storm.
She blew up over the San Juan Mountains, she spent herself at last.
The threat of heavy weather, that was what she knew best.

Oh, it's enough to be on your way,
it's enough to cover ground, it's enough to be moving on.
Home, build it behind your eyes, carry it in your heart, safe among your own.

It woke me up on a Sunday, an hour before the sun.
It had me watching the headlights out on highway 591.
Till I stepped into my trousers, till I pulled my big boots on,
I walked out on the Mesa and I stumbled on this song

Oh, it's enough to be on your way,
it's enough just to cover ground, it's enough to be moving on.
Home, build it behind your eyes, carry it in your heart, safe among your own.
So long, old gal.
