"Buy the ticket, take the ride..."

"Nixon was a professional politician, and I despised everything he stood for—but if he were running for president this year against the evil Bush-Cheney gang, I would happily vote for him."

http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/story/6562575/fear_and_loathing_campaign_2004/

"Football Season is over":

"No More Games. No More Bombs. No More Walking. No More Fun. No More Swimming. 67. That is 17 years past 50. 17 more than I needed or wanted. Boring. I am always bitchy. No Fun—for anybody. 67. You are getting Greedy. Act your old age. Relax—This won't hurt."

"The Edge...there is no honest way to explain it because the only people who really know where it is are the ones who have gone over." ~Hunter Stockton Thompson~

“Myths and legends die hard in America. We love them for the extra dimension they provide, the illusion of near-infinite possibility to erase the narrow confines of most men's reality. Weird heroes and mould-breaking champions exist as living proof to those who need it that the tyranny of ''the rat race'' is not yet final.”

and I was truly shocked by that. It had been quite awhile since my teenage infatuation with Thompson's work and myth, but I felt a profound sense of loss.
Both "Hells Angels" and "Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas" are fine examples of the writer's art. They will stand.
Rest In Peace
