1. I said Debit. I'm trying not to use our credit cards.
I want to go a whole year without putting anything on any one of them.

16. You can do it.
I know you have a lot going on, but I know it's possible. I also know it's a hard habit to break.
Good luck!

2. Debit card as credit
Edited on Thu Feb-22-07 02:26 PM by Strawman
Don't get charged like normal debit and I usually get hundreds of dollars in points to buy holiday gifts with by doing it that way.

5. best way to use a card
it costs the vendor more, but you get better protection on the credit network. Your bank gives you those bonuses because they can charge the vendor more for this transaction.

4. It depends on the size of purchase. Under $25, almost always cash.
I'm old fashioned when it comes to money management. I take out money from the ATM to cover incidentals for 1 to 2 weeks. If the cash is gone, I stop buying. It's how I learned to save when I first started working and it's still easier for me than keeping track of checks or debit cards for small retail purchases. I don't use debit cards at all. I know, I'm a Luddite.

25. I've started using my debit card over the past year or so a lot more
mostly for when I'm buying groceries and small misc. items. But I tend do write checks to pay all my bills. I don't think I'd ever be willing to get to the point of paying all my bills online. In that sense, I'm old-fashioned, like you. :pals:

8. Cash, always.
Unless I order something online, because these sillies never get warm with my idea of "Hey, I just fax you the money, OK?!"

In stores here, always cash. Gone is gone, I think. :hi:

15. Do you have debit cards over there?
How mine works. It has a Visa logo on it so I can use it anywhere Visa is accepted. It pulls the cash directly out of my checking account. I can't spend more than I have. People seem to confuse the Debit/Credit thing.

But credit cards seem to be more usual, unfortunately. Debit cards is the way to go. :hi:

19. Me, too. I like to say that I'm their worst customer because I never pay
interest. I "discovered" that interest on credit cards can be avoided if you pay off your entire balance each month. Once I started doing that (about 15 years ago) I enjoyed "extra" money in my budget! Oh, yes, you have to have a budget, or if you prefer, a "spending plan." I don't know how people manage without an overall budget of how much goes out, as well as how much goes in. It is liberating, actually!

10. used to eb credit card, then debit card, and now -- because my entire income is cash --
I tend to use cash whenever I can. I still use my debit card sometimes, though, and always for gas -- it's a hassle to dump cash into my bank account, so I'd rather go for the cash-economy motif whenever I can and I tend to deposit cash mainly to cover my rent and the bills paid online and my Paypal adventures.

I'm also to a pretty decent degree "off the grid" and, as long as it remains practical, I'd just as soon stay that way.

Pay it off each month so no interest...and a percentage of what I charge on it each quarter goes towards the principal on my mortgage!
