MySpace.com Considers Breast-Feeding Pics Of Mother 'Too Sexual'

TACOMA, Wash. -- A Tacoma mother facing a ban from the social networking site MySpace.com has been gaining support for pictures posted of her breast-feeding.

Melissa Rocks said the networking site has removed images from her profile of her nursing her baby because MySpace.com believes the images are “too sexual.”

Rocks, a mother of three, reposted the pictures, and again, they were taken down and the Web site threatened to delete her profile, she said.

“We’ve seen flagrantly sexual images on there that haven’t been removed after reported attempts to get the removed. Yet in one day my wife’s pictures are removed three times,” Rocks' husband said.

According to Rocks, a woman in Delaware has started an online petition to support her, and so far, 2,220 people have signed it.

KIRO 7 Eyewitness News contacted MySpace.com, but they had no comment.

My niece breastfed all she could and pumped lots. But there was NO WAY that she could keep three hungry babies satisfied on breast milk alone. So she mixed the breastmilk with formula.

She has three healthy six-year-olds.

Most thought the picture was too sexual and that it was something that "needed to be hidden."

I see it lumped in with such inflammatory subjects as the Olive Garden, but don't know why. I guess it's one of these three things:

1) there are people on DU who think breast feeding is obscene. (This would surprise me.);

2) there are pro-breastfeeding people who are so insistent on their position to make those who bottle-fed, were bottle-fed or knows someone who bottle-feeds to feel they're being insulted;

or 3) there are rabidly pro bottle-feeding people here for whom their aversion to breast feeding hasn't got anything to do with morality, but other people believe it in fact does.
