I just watched the movie "Idiocracy" last night
My wife and I were kind of stunned when it was over. We're not sure if it was really funny or really, really depressing.

For one thing, the movie takes place 500 years in the future, but I see it becoming a reality in ten to twenty years. Heck, I couldn't even tell the difference between the FOX News they portray in the movie for laughs and the FOX News we have now.

Thoughts, anyone?

1. Ow, My Brain
It had the same effect on me. Watch the movie, then take a stroll in your local mall. You'll feel like it's 2505.

And yeah, the Fox anchors - "He tried taking water from toilets, but it's Secretary Not Sure who's in the toilet now" - are pretty much exactly as they are now.

3. If that comedy show were broadcast today
I have not doubt that it would be a huge hit. It would probably even slay American Idol in the same timeslot. I mean, it's pretty much the same schtick as on the show Jackass.

2. I thought it was really funny
I'm not at all surprised that Fox squashed its theatrical release, however.

4. They were probably afraid of being sued many times over
by the many corporations whose brand names and logos are used quite freely in a not-particularly-kind fashion.

And, of course, the movie accurately skewers their own flagship political propaganda channel.

7. All that stuff would have been cleared beforehand.
I think they just found it hit a little too close to home for their own comfort.

13. I loved it, and yes the fact that FOX didn't change
made it that much funnier.

I'M GONNA KICK YOUR ASS!

l-o-fuckin-l

Some of my friends did not like it because it was "all fart jokes" but ... did they not read the title? The movie is brilliant and scary. It bothered me that it got squahsed - I wonder if part of the reason is because the "brilliant" minds at FOX did not get it. I can see the meeting now....

Mike Judge: "see the movie is a scathing satire about how..."

FOX: "QUIT TALKIN LIKE A FAG! I'M GONNA KICK YOUR ASS!"

MJ: "wait, perhaps you don't understand, the movie is satire about how America is getting..."

FOX: "WHY DO YOU HATE AMERICA?!?!"

I wonder if perhaps some of the extras are freepers who thought they were going to be in a documentary...
