Please check in here if you just don't give a shit about the Oscars.
Just like last year and the year before that, I haven't seen any of the movies that are nominated or feature people who are nominated, and nothing - NOTHING - means less to me than the Oscars. If I cared about actor awards, they'd be the kind that the fans vote on, "people's choice" or whatever they're called. I certainly don't give a fuck what the Academy thinks. I don't care what celebs wear to the ceremonies, I don't care what the winners have to say or who they thank, and I don't care who wins.

Last year I entered an office pool on the Oscars, just because I was pushed into it by co-workers and it was worth the $10 entry fee to get those clowns to shut up. Even though the winner would collect $420, I couldn't bring myself to care who won (Oscars or the pool), watch the ceremony, or even remember who I picked. The end result: I actually won the pool (such pools are often won by people who know nothing about the subject matter) and still never bothered to learn who won (and since I just checked boxes at random, even back then I couldn't recall my "predictions").

Let me put it this way: even my blinding indifference towards Britney, Lindsay, Paris, Nicole, etc, can't match my indifference towards the Oscars.

I'm just looking for one person (more than one would be great, but one will do) to tell me I'm not alone. Thank you for your consideration towards this crucial matter.

1. Never have found them interesting at all
Never watch awards shows of any kind. Hardly go to the movies anymore, just wait for them to come to pay per view or an even cheaper evolvement. I do have my favorite actors and actresses though. Paul Newman, Geena Davis don't need awards to make them winners in my book.

21. Yes!
Couldn't agree more on all counts, although I will add that I do my best not to develop favorite actors and actresses. I know that sounds stupid, but at one point my favorite actor was James Woods and then I got wind of his politics. Broke my fucking heart.

22. I think I've
had a crush on Geena Davis ever since The Fly came out in 86. And I've worn out our tape of A League of their Own. And Cool Hand Luke is on the top of my favorite movie list. Newman was awesome in the verdict as well. But I'm with ya on the politics thing.

If I want to see an awards ceremony I go down to the local National Guard Armory when they are having awards quarters. Now, those are awards well deserved.

53. I currently
have a crush on Sandra Bullock, but even that didn't motivate me to go see Crash. Says a lot, I suppose.

Newman is good in everything he's done. I loved Davis in Long Kiss Goodnight, she was smoking hot as a lethal spy who could kill you with nothing more than a mean look.

I never saw the movie because I didn't need to be convinced, and I've read Earth in the Balance. I would like to see him win, but that doesn't mean I'll watch the ceremony. I'm sure our buddy Drudge will spotlight it the next day.

What's with Rachel Ray and a few others talking about "Oscar Parties"?

:wtf: She's even planning 'menu's' for the Oscar party guests! :eyes:

I could care less!

They're trying to make it like the super bowl.

Give me a break!!

I heard that and decided to head out and pick up some DVD's! ;)

56. Actually, I'm going DVD shopping today as well.
I need to buy a few birthday presents.

I don't generally buy movies on DVD, I buy TV series. The current favorite in my household is Firefly, but tonight I'll be getting myself the second season of NUMB3RS. The last movie I bought on DVD probably won't be available where you are, you'll have to order it from Canada (amazon.ca, for instance), it's one of my favorite movies when I want lighthearted entertainment and kickass action.

The amazon.ca link: http://www.amazon.ca/Bon-Cop-Bad-Eric-Canuel/dp/B000IY02TC/sr=8-1/qid=1172264654/ref=pd_ka_1/702-4328071-2120854?ie=UTF8&s=dvd

Warning: if you don't speak fluent French you'll be looking at subtitles for half of the movie, and if you don't know hockey you'll be missing a few jokes. If you watch the movie, though, I'll be glad to explain :)

The only thing I know is that either Judith Dench or Helen Mirren is skipping the ceremony for some reason or another.

26. Agreed on both counts, but
at least it gives some indication of how the work is recognized. Not always significant, I'll grant you, but let me put it this way: when I'm given four choices for best actor / actress, I care a lot more about the opinion of the person on the barstool next to me than I do about the opinion of the Academy.

If they want me to be interested, here's what could be done: on Oscars night, present the Academy's choice AND the name of the actor / movie / whatever that would have won if the people had made the pick (assuming there was some reliable way of telling, not online ballot stuffing). You're quite right that the winners of the PC awards are rarely the best, but I would make that same argument for the Academy Awards as well. The last time I agreed with an Academy decision was fifteen years ago or so, and the next most recent ones were in the 1970s.

The movie itself was okay (a little too gory) but the sound system was horrid and I could hardly hear a word of dialogue. I only hear out of one ear and at places like movie theaters the sound can be overwhelming after awhile. The music was good, though.

In general, though, I'm just not a movie fan.

at all. Mainly, because the winning films don't usually hold up well over time. The whole thing is based on popularity, sentiment and, now we know, lots of campaigning. What does that have to do with art?

The best "serious" film I saw this year was, "Children of Men," which only received two small nominations.

69. I usually only
watch the last hour to see the memoriam that they do for the actors who have passed away over the last year. Other than that, I don't care who wins or what they are wearing.

70. Meh, Oscars.
My first post, and I'd like to use it to say I care more about dryer lint than I do the Oscars.

But I couldn't give a rat's ass about the Oscars.

78. i am NOT checking in! i love the fucking Oscars!
It's my life! Well, maybe not my life. But I am a screenwriter and I live in L.A. How can I not care about the Oscars??????? Sure, they're just a marketing scheme to sell more movie tickets, but that's OK. it's tradition! In L.A., it's bigger than Christmas!

80. I don't watch it, don't pay any attention to the nominees/winners, and haven't seen
any of the movies. I don't even know who those actors are anymore.

I am only ever-so-slightly interested this year, because of Gore's nomination. I hope he wins and jams the oscar up *'s ass.

83. Did they happen? Did Gore win?
I go to the movies once or twice a year when someone convinces me to go. I saw Dreamgirls and it is great, especially if you like Motown.
