do wind chimes ever annoy neighbors?
I love the sound of wind chimes, but the other day my husband suggested that we take one of ours down for the night because it was very windy.

What says you?

2. I think they sometimes do.
They don't annoy me, but my neighbor has commented that ours are load after a windy night. We are good friends and I just sort of agree with him and laugh. He hasn't asked that we take them down, so I figure they're not annoying enough for that.

5. yeah, just because they are loud doesn't mean they
bother your neighbor. Then again.....

We are new to the neighborhood and I don't want to start making enemies, but I'm thinking that they aren't so loud as to bother me and they are right next to the house - surely they must be much quieter for the neighbors.

Edited on Fri Feb-23-07 04:07 PM by billyskank
I haven't been arsed to put them up yet.

Mind you I live in an apartment so my door is behind the front door. Doesn't actually get any wind at all. Nice thinking MUM! :D

:hi:

8. Our only neighbors who could hear our wind chimes
- one has a yapping dog
- the other two have cats that shit in our landscaping

The issue of our wind chimes, which sound very nice, never comes up.

9. They annoy me!
Especially at night! I like the way they look and I don't
mind hearing them occasionally but not all the time.

I hang mine inside, in my windows. ;)

11. Yes they do
depends on the chimes though. Some of them annoy the hell out of me, some of them I like. If in doubt, I'd say err on the side of polite and take them down when it is particularly windy.

13. I take mine down when it gets windy
because they annoy ME when it is really windy. Reminds me of hurricanes now. But I like them when they're only tinkling...

14. If they're the really
heavy metal ones, then yes, they are annoying when it's windy. If they are the light metal ones with a light sound then not so much.

If they do, take down the neighbors, not the wind chimes. :hide:

17. I live in a townhouse, and I always take them down at night when it's windy.
I'd hate for my neighbors to be kept awake because of them.

19. That really is nice of you. I also live in a townhouse.
My next door neighbor had the most god-awful sounding wind chimes right outside my bedroom window and actually was offended when I told her they were loud.

20. My son is threatening harm to our neighbor's wind chimes.
They are on their back porch below my son's bedroom window and keep him awake at night when it's windy.

21. They annoy me on occasion - I tend to dislike random noise from outside
However, I also dislike noise from children, dogs, lawn-mowers, cars, stereos, and anything else that isn't a bird (except crows annoy me too), so I may be a bit of a crank...
