So I screamed at my supervisor and dared him to fire me
I showed up at the "job review" with my bags packed. Its the first one on one conversation we've ever had. He has no idea what my job is and the email he sent me about it showed how little idea he has what I do. I knew he was looking for a replacement for me already. There was about 10 minutes of screaming during which I told him I knew he hated me and he denied it.

I ended up never even looking at the review - I guess I was right that it was going to be totally negative and telling him it would be impossible to conduct a review without fair and objective people present. Then I went to HR. Somehow I think they knew I was coming. This guy is an asshole, and I wasn't about to sit there and lick up whatever he dished out- I'd have sooner walked out the door and never come back. I may end up leaving anyway, but at least HR and his supervisor will find out what a lousy manager he is.

3. I was very friendly with him today
and he was very friendly back over the phone (we have a machine to set up together)... I am waiting for my Yahoo profile to be approved and then I will send him a "wink".

Thanks for seeing it as standing up for myself- thats how I see it- who knows what will happen, but I came home and there were 3 messages about job possibilities, so I know I can go any time.

4. I can't stand it when people aren't "real"
and this guy is never "real".

So I thought that maybe I could cut through the bullshit by saying this isn't even a job review- I know you're planning to fire me. But all I got was bullshit, and more bullshit. Finally I said, talking to you is like talking to a brick wall. Not a single word I'm saying is getting through. His whole thing is I'm a manager, you're below me, I'm right, you're wrong.

And its really outrageous when he's critiquing technical skills he knows absolutely nothing about but won't give examples because he can't.

5. I had to go to HR about a supervisor once also.

Didn't scream at her but she was a bad manager and everyone knew it. In the end, I was the one who got screwed because it was a wonderful company and the pay was great. Everything after that went pretty much downhill jobwise.

Good for you though, maybe I should've done some screaming. Good luck.

6. Good for standing up for yourself.
It seems to be acceptable for a superior to treat a subordinate like this. It's angering but we're supposed to just forget about it and move on. The subordinate is told by others that even if they're right to not burn bridges. But if a subordinate were to somehow act in kind towards the boss or company the subordinate could be black-balled from whatever field they're in.

7. Yeah I don't buy that
Its a big world. This guys been a manager for only 2 months so its not like he's proven himself yet, and frankly I think they made a huge mistake in promoting him. Most of the real IT Managers I know would consider him such a pathetic lightweight they wouldn't even talk to him.

8. Small people in big jobs are overwhelmed by superior talent
You should have kicked him in the nuts and been done with it.

This is only the first chapter, I'm sure you are aware of it.

9. Next chapter will involve his supervisor and mine
He is the least talented person in the IT department and intends to surround himself with other nontalented people. I intend to say exactly what I think. It will be entertaining for all.

11. Nope.
Its the only place that he has ever worked. He knows the company. He looks good on paper. But in person he's really weak, not very smart. He's not close to anyone. Get right down to it he's a conniving asswipe who loves money. I have no idea how I got so far on his bad side. I just refuse to pay him homage even a little.

12. It's called "smarter than me " syndrome
I have a client like that. Co-owner, clueless and ignorant, understands food, thinks PC's are un-necessary except for news and sports. Doesn't understand why it costs so much for my time, which is half what other guys charge with half the experience.

Constantly busting my balls. Didn't like my hat yesterday, said it looked "stupid'.

My answer was "the day will come when your server melts down and I won't pick up the phone. And it could be soon."

he walked away, while getting yelled at by his partner.

I still think a kick in his nuts would have made you feel better.

13. This is an Oracle guy
who is managing the whole works, and he knows nothing about the other side of it. I am level two and I do a mix of stuff. He wants to evaluate me by how fast I deliver toner cartridge or how messy my desk is or how well I write help desk notes. Pure bullshit.

Did he ask you to bring him coffee ever?

Maybe they could find foreign substance in his office.
