Have any of you ever returned a book to the bookseller due to your
disgust/disinterest in the material? I've returned one book in my lifetime. Can't remember the title - subject matter was that of a female stalking a young boy. When it got to the part where she wanted to eat the scabs from his knees, I thought, "That's it - can't do any more of this" and took it back.

1. I've returned books I ordered for my library
Once, I ordered an encyclopedia of world religions that originated from a publisher backed by an evangelical Christian group. It wasn't until I had the book in my hands that I noticed this. Because my library doesn't have the funds to also buy a balanced and information-based work on the exact same topic, I sent it back.

2. Good on you. You believe in "Fair and Balanced" .....
something that is sorely lacking today in the MSM.

3. I`m going to skip right over the scab part and
get down to my response.

I`m a booknut, but I did return one book once. Here`s the background....yard sale, 50 cents each, big stack. Got all the way to my rig before I realized I accidentally picked up a book with Barbara Bush`s photo on the cover. Had to walk all the way back up the hill and lose 50 cents but it was well worth it.

5. So would I.
I don't know which would be worse - to finish the book I returned or to have Bab's face staring at me.

4. Yes, but it was one of those business how to books that
guaranteed if you didn't like it there was no charge. I ordered one once on how to write winning business letters. It was all BS, so I returned it. All the other books I buy, I've already heard the author on cspan's book TV or heard him/her on an interview and KNOW I want the book, so I would have NO reason to return it.

7. I love foraging in the bookstores and coming out with things I've never thought
of reading. The one I returned was my first (and only, so far) failure. I'm open-minded, but could not get past that part to continue reading. For me, it was pure rubbish.

9. If the genders were reversed I would have assumed the author to be O'Reilly
but I guess it wasn't him. I probably would have burnt the book.

10. I can't bear the thought of book-burning - even if it's O'Reilly's or
Coulter's - just would never give them any of my hard-earned cash - or even check them out of the library.'
