Penicillin Soup Recipe
Years ago, I lived with a chef. Once, when I came down with an awful flu/cold, I was too poor to go to the doctor. My friend made this soup for me and I was well withing three days. The soup does not actually contain penicillin but this is the name he gave to this recipe. Over the years, whenever I or my child have gotten sick, I have made this soup. It always works. I share it with you now:

Penicillin Soup:

Ingredients:

Chicken on the bone (I usually buy a six-pack of drumsticks)
1-2 bunches of Fresh Turnip Greens (Mustard Greens or Collard Greens work just as well)
Assorted fresh vegetables (your choice)
Seasoning (your choice)
A big pot
A lot of water

Preparation:

1) Fill a large pot with a lot of water and bring the water to boil
2) Drop the raw chicken into the pot and boil until chicken is firm
3) Remove chicken from the pot
4) Remove meat from the bones and set aside
5) Crack the bones and drop them back into the boiling water.
6) Boil the bones for at least 20 minutes
7) Remove bones from the water and give to kitty
8) Return chicken to the pot and reduce heat to medium low
9) Add fresh vegetables in order of how long it takes to cook them, add the fresh (cleaned and cut) Turnip Greens to the pot
10) Cover and simmer for another 20 minutes
11) Season to taste

Recommended serving:

A) Eat at least one cup of the soup every four hours.

B) Continue to eat soup until there is no more soup

C) Feel better

1. Interesting
I've never added greens to chicken soup but it sounds good. Thanks for sharing. :hi:

2. be warned
The greens give the soup a taste that some find unpleasant. Personally, we love the taste but many don't.

3. Ok but
I do love greens, of any kind. So I figure I will probably like it. I had turnip greens with ham hocks last week in fact. Yummy!

Thanks for the warning though. :)

6. Well
You don't have to have a kitty. Just don't feed the bones to your puppy. That would be bad.

7. No, I don't give them

"splintery" bones, just big baked ones. And they aren't puppies, I just call them "puppies" because they are little dogs, mini schnauzers.

Actually, I like the sound of this soup!

8. I stand by its curative properties
As long as one boils the cracked bones and adds the greens.

As I said, all other ingredients are up to one's personal taste.

I hope you don't get sick. But if that happens, give this soup a shot. :)
