I have a confession: I occasionally watch Lawrence Welk reruns on PBS
Edited on Tue Feb-27-07 08:52 PM by WI_DEM
on Sunday evenings. I remember when I would visit my grandparents at their house for the weekend when I was a kid. Every Saturday night at 6pm (central time) they watched "The Lawrence Welk Show" and I watched too. I didn't really care for it, but now when I watch it in reruns I get kind of sentimental thinking about them.

Does this make me a freak?

1. He has the best pianist on his show
I developed a hugh fondness for the piano because of his show.
I still love it

2. No, although if I'm looking for actual entertainment
I'd rather be thrown naked into a Turkish prison than listen to Lawrence Welk's music. I suppose I'd feel a little sentimental, too (if I could actually bring myself to turn on the show) because my Grandma loved the show, and always watched it when she visited us. And we kids would whine and sulk because there was always something else on that we wanted to watch (in those days we had only one TV), but Mom made us turn the TV over to Grandma. We thought Lawrence Welk totally sucked. Maybe I'll tune in just for old time's sake, for Grandma, who died 26 years ago at the age of 98.

3. I saw an old B&W episode with Pete Fountain playing in a Dixieland quartet
That was great. Fountain still had a full head of hair.

4. I did the same thing at my grandparents!
However, I have no nostalgia for that show. They also watched local wrestling. No love of that either. But I can watch Star Trek, Bewitched and the Partridge Family anytime and feel the world is just all right.

6. Just as long as you can blame your grandparents and
your innate sentimentality, it's okay. :D

or whatever?

...Well, I guess that WOULD still be on, because it's TAPES...(Redstone smites himself upon the forehead yet again.)

12. I spent many a Saturday nights at my grandparents
Edited on Tue Feb-27-07 10:14 PM by GenDem
My grandmother loved it, and I watched with her. When I'm flipping through the channels and I come upon Lawrence Welk, I stop by for a bit of nostalgia. My childhood was not always a happy one, but staying with my grandparents give me some of my fondest and more peaceful memories. I liked the Lennon Sisters, the bubbles, and I liked to see the ladies dresses.

15. I sometimes watch it, too.
Whether you liked the music or not, Welk only hired true professionals, and everyone on the show seemed to be having fun. Anything that makes me forget I'm living in BushAmerica for a little while is OK, I guess.
