1. I bought my uncle the "Complete Watchmen"
I wonder if they'll ever make a movie about it?

2. Someday...
It mirrors todays situation very well... they might make one to raise awareness... but it might also create a slight hysteria.

6. Shudder...
If Terry Gilliam decides that it is unfilmable, it probably is. And much of what is cool about it is totally specific to comic books, and the comic book format. Perhaps it will sink back into development hell for another decade or two.

4. They're making a movie about it right now!
A couple of years ago, Paul Greengrass (United 93 was working on it, but it's changed hands between studios and is now being directed by Zack Snyder (300 and the Dawn of the Dead remake). His remarks on the film sound promising:

http://www.superherohype.com/news/topnews.php?id=5207

"I set the movie in 1985 and I have the luxury of being far enough away from 1985 so that that is a viable idea. I think what happened in the past was that when you're only five years away from 1985, it's a weird time to make a period piece that took place three years ago, but studios don't get that. There has been a push I think on the other scripts that exist about trying to update the movie or trying to make it take place in present day and things of that nature. I think by setting it 1985, by having the Cold War, having Nixon, having all that stuff, you sort of reinvigorate what the story is about. It allows all the metaphors to sort of erect."

8. I hope not.
They'd only butcher it.

And there's no way at all to film some of it; the whole "Tales of the Black Freighter"comic-within-a-comic, for instance (with the almost metatextual in-joke that in a world with real superheroes, the comic books are about pirates instead); there's far too much that makes the book great and brilliant that would be utterly lost in the translation to screen. They might as well not even bother.

5. Read it again in a couple of months
Dozens and dozens of nuances that you haven't noticed before will leap out at you.

7. One of the all-time best
I wish I still had my copies (though I still have all the original prints of V for Vendatta).
