Have you ever drank to kill the pain?
My son will be flying to Ramadi,Iraq tomorrow as a contractor.I am not pleased. His rationale is that his unit is due to be redeployed for the 4th time, and he might as well cash in.what;s a mom to do?No answers needed.I just needed to vent.

9. Yes
The pain was still there after the alcohol wore off.

Good thoughts for your son until he's back home with you again.

10. I can certainly understand your fears, w8liftinglady
I'd be terrified for him if I were in your shoes.

I wish I could offer you words of comfort - but can only offer you some

16. It never works for me
It just amplifies the pain.
Plus i turn into a big ol emotional wreck when i do that.
I hope he is safe and comes home as he left safe and sound

Safe journey to your son.

I have a friend over there that I wish I would hear from. He is an Arabic translator and couldn't find solid work state side.

19. Safe journey for your son,
but I think it would be a shorter list, if you stated "who hasn't drank, to kill the pain"....

21. I'm inclined to
think we all 'self-medicate' to ease our pain. Such 'medication' could be booze, prescriptions, religion, working out - anything we throw ourselves into with a particular fervor. Of course it's more complicated than this - but my intent is to say that we use whatever coping skills (or lack thereof) to deal with the things in life that are beyond our control.

I adhere to the "What ever gets you through the night" theory. I'd be beside myself if my son were deploying, too. Hang in there! :grouphug:

22. Jesus, didn't he just get back a few days ago?
I'm sorry that you are suffering but take my advice, drinking yourself into oblivion won't help. If anything it will make the hurt worse. I found that out the hard way.

I hope that he gets back safe and sound.

23. Yes.
I was drinking pretty heavily at one point dealing with my depression.

But that's not on the same level as your pain.

My best wishes and thoughts for your son.
