Driver using laptop dies in crash
SACRAMENTO - The California Highway Patrol on Tuesday identified the man who died in a vehicle collision while apparently using a laptop computer as a 29-year-old Chico resident.

Oscar Hinojosa, a computer tutor, died Monday morning after his Honda Accord crossed into oncoming traffic and collided with a Hummer on Highway 99 south of Yuba City. The Hummer's occupants were not seriously injured.

CHP officers found his laptop computer running and plugged into the car's cigarette lighter. It was positioned in such a way that investigators believe Hinojosa may have been using it when his car crossed the center line, California Highway Patrol Sgt. John Pettigrew said.

6. You'd be surprised, kedrys
I don't do as much driving as I used to for my job, but man, did I see some weird shit! One of the worst things was seeing people flying down the freeway at 70 mph, reading the newspaper that is draped over the steering wheel! And the people who are talking on their cell phones (without earpieces, but just holding them in one hand) while jotting down notes with the other hand, again driving down the freeway with their knees! Fuggin' idiots!

7. The stupidest thing I ever saw
and mind you, this was aeons ago before cell phones were invented, was this idiot who missed his/her exit on the freeway and MADE A U-TURN to come back and get on the exit ramp. So at 2 in the morning, we're treated to the headlights of an oncoming car driven by someone who has obviously lost his/her mind.

The laptop story is made all the more uproarious by the fact that he intersected the trajectory of a HUMMER. You can't make up sh*t like that.

5. Good.
Anyone stupid enough to use a laptop while driving an automobile, on a highway doesn't deserve to live. Fucking moron. It's fortunate this jackass didn't kill anyone else with his stupidity.

I guess his last lesson was: Don't drive while computing.

11. 510 tickets for that or similar acts last year!
From the linked article:

California drivers can be charged under existing law with reckless driving if they are caught using a television, video or computer monitor in the front seat of a vehicle. The CHP ticketed 510 drivers for that offense last year.

Unbelievable.

12. I use my laptop all the time while driving.
In fact, the darned thing seems to be there every time I sit down. It's very convenient, actually. Kind of like a little shelf in front of me. I can even rest my notebook computer on it, though of course only an idiot would do that while driving.

I do steer with my laptop, sometimes, like, when my hands are busy because I'm eating.

Let's hope that other people read this and stop trying to multitask while driving. People are getting outrageous out there with all the shit they're trying to do while driving.

19. Local news ran a segment showing a teenage girl text messaging
while driving! This was a program in which they had installed cameras into the cars of like 100-200 teenage drivers in this area, so they all knew they were being monitored. In this particular example, she was text messaging and drifted to the right, nearly hitting a utility pole as he younger sister was in the passenger's seat. In another case, another girl was swerving right and left, hitting both shoulders while texting as she was driving down an interstate highway...

22. Erm...I do that all the time.
I used to read on my way to school too - a book propped on the steering wheel. But since I moved back to Philly, I walk to work. Which is probably good. :D
