Town Law Requiring Cars Parked On Street To Have Light On Changed - Batteries Were Dying
<snip>

PEKIN, Ill. -- Turn out the lights.

While the party may not be over, the law has been changed in the central Illinois town of Pekin.

For decades, an ordinance required that all cars parked on city streets after dark keep a light on. People complained the law left cars with dead batteries and motorists with short tempers.

Many risked a $10 ticket rather than having to get a jump start in the morning.

In voting to dump the ordinance, Councilman Daryl Dagit said it was time to stop harassing citizens with an outdated law.

But some opposed the change, saying the light law helped keep streets clear of cars after dark.

1. ah, Pekin Illinois.
IIRC, this is the same town that until 1987 had a sign saying "no coloreds inside city limits after dark"

Not one of my favorite places.

in some places.

The Pekin High School mascot was the "chinks" for years, with a very bad caricature of a Chinese person. I guess Pekin = Peking. :wtf:

They changed it to the "dragons" around the late 80's also.
