5. Well, I'm not actually going, because if I sit in a folding metal chair for an hour, I

won't be able to walk tomorrow morning (truth, not exaggeration), and I have to go to Boston in the AM for business, so I guess I'll just have to pass on the platitudes.

And I remember from when my older son did this "program," I got angry about them calling caffeine and tobacco "precursor drugs." I shit you not.

Glad I'll miss tonight's festivities.

We did it in my school and I don't even drink coffee, but let's just say that most of my former classmates aren't exactly poster children for the effectiveness of DARE, if you know what I mean. :smoke:

When it was my D.A.R.E. graduation, I had one of the 'winning' essays...I wrote about how I didn't want to end up like my drug-addict father.
I read the winning essay to my father and he cried.
Hell, he asked to hear it!

When I was in fifth grade, there was no talk about drugs. All they ever told us was "sit down and shut up."

And yes, DARE is a gravy train for the cops who pull that duty. What I could never understand is how or why the officers involved were permitted to wear their weapons in elementary school buildings. Hell, half the parents do show up high. The rest are usually in it for the DARE cake and punch.
