1. Yup--sit back and enjoy the ride. I LOVE Amtrak.
It's a brazillion times more comfortable than air travel, the scenery's great, and you can get up and walk around at will. Where's your departure point?

2. Oklahoma City...
It's a four hour trip to Ft Worth where we switch trains for an hour trip to Dallas.

3. Coach or Sleeper?

Where are you departing from?

I've taken a few long Amtrak trips - knowing the length of the journey helps with advise.

Ah - just saw your previous post - OKC-Ft Worth

I have not been on this one, but as I recall, it's a small train.

Be prepared for the train to run late - they often do. I plan accordingly so it does not become a worry - If the train is running behind, I just look at it as bonus time on the rails.

5. Coach, four hours.
I figure we can deal with coach for a four hour trip. Well, five, but we switch trains.

7. See my updated post above
Best part about train travel. Meeting your fellow passengers. Trains are different from air travel these days - people are much more socialble. They converse, swap stories make friends.

4. One thing that is very nice about the train is that you can get up and walk for a bit.
No "seatbelts on" sign, ever. There's usually a cafe car with snack food too. Sit back and enjoy the scenery.

You will need to show ID just like on a plane, but that's about the biggest hassle.

6. Thank you!
We always keep our IDs with us, so that's not hard. I'll take lots of pictures and share with you once we get home!

9. Love the Amtrak....
I usually do the Norfolk-NYC run, about 9 hours if running on time. Just don't be in a hurry so you can relax and enjoy.

10. This is vacation...
Long weekend, nice hotel, long dinners, drinks.
We're not driving at all that weekend, and I plan to stay tipsy.
