Did anyone ever get money from Missing Money.Com?
I found my brother had several thousand dollars due him through Missing Money .Com. He was unsuccessful because his ex-wife had to sign-off on a Life insurance policy but wouldn't in spite. Sigh.

Any good stories out there...I know many people posted they found "lost money" and just needed to do the paper work or make the right contacts. Well?

1. Found some money owed to my mom
I would have to open an estate to get it though. It wasn't enough to bother with.

2. Yes and no
I found a bank in my home state had a $5,000 cashier's check drawn in my name. But because there was no address, SSN, or account information associated with it, there was really now way I could claim it without the actual check.

3. I just checked, and I am owed money.
I have no idea why, but the state of Tennessee is holding some money for me, apparently. It's not a huge amount, but I'm going to check with the state to look into it.

4. For other people, never for myself
Edited on Fri Mar-30-07 02:34 PM by OurVotesCount-Ohio
I found a former boss's Mom had money from her deceased husband's last employer, my daughter's former uncle in-law also had a sizable sum there too. I also told my friend that she had a small amount from an overpaid utility bill after she moved out of state.

Nothing for me or my immediate family though..

edited for not knowing how to spell!

5. Did they collect?
I want to know if this missing money is more "money owed you, but will never collect." It seems that was the case in many instances. Just curious. Thanks for the response. :-)

9. I know two did. The other, my former boss said there was lots of
paperwork involved, especially since his father was deceased, but as far as I know his Mom got the money. Last I had heard they were waiting on the check. I left the job and never heard anymore.

My brother does have a few hundred on there from an insurance company from 20 or more years ago. He thinks it's from when his daughter was a teen (since her name is listed too)and had an auto accident. She's over 40 now. I've printed off the forms and sent them to him a couple years ago. He said they need information he no longer has..so it looks like his money will set there forever.

8. $2,800:)
I got that amount due to "demutualization" of a life insurance policy which I'd had back in the 80s. I had no idea about it and just happened to check my name on MissingMoney for a lark...it was a nice surprise!:)The state of maine had been keeping it for me for over 20 years!

12. I am owed money, but I am afraid to claim it because ...
it is related to an old life insurance policy. We did this once for my husband, and we ended up paying the IRS almost all of it. What happened was that someone else owned the policy and cashed out most of it and skipped out on the taxes. We had to pay the taxes on the gain on the policy.
