(A different) Top Gear USA ??
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/6539111.stm

It said the US show would be the same as the UK version, but focusing on American cars, such as Cadillacs.

US stars will also test their driving skills against mystery racing driver The Stig, the newspaper added.

A spokeswoman for the BBC confirmed that BBC Worldwide - the corporation's commercial arm - had been in talks, but could not confirm details.

If so, and I'm not too hot on the idea, I hope it goes to HBO or the like. The Discovery TG's were pretty weak, in my opinion. Better still, broadcast the originals on BBC America, fer cri-yi! I watch TG to see what they have to say about cars we don't get here. If I want a snarky opinion about an American car, I'll watch..... um, ok, I see the point now...

1. Do you think the US version will make them tone down their opinions?
Personally I love Top Gear and find ways to watch it here in the US *cough cough* torrents. But from what I've seen on that show the presenters are not too keen on American made cars especially Cadillacs. I would just hate to see a soulless Top Gear pandering to American crowds which if I know American TV execs as well as I think I do, is exactly what is going to happen.

Put the BBC version on American TV and call it a day...I'm fairly certain Americans are ok with watching people drive cars with steering wheels on the right

3. I don't think that "the boys" would pander, even if directed to do so
And I'm with you: I watch TG to see what is going on outside the US. Plus, the Discovery shows seemed watered-down and awkward. Just show it on BBCA, folks!

2. Heh, I'd love to see a "Stig" throw a caddy around that track
but that's where my interest in the car would end - after a good laugh

This will not end well. It'll be gutted, soulless, and weak.

4. Good point
I'm not *excited* about the cars in the US market. I mean, I'm not too excited about a Fiat Panda either, but at least that has an "exotic" flavor about it (if you will...)
